Folders that don't fail lock-up, serious replies only please...

If the axis lock is ruled out, then you are left only with button locks. I would look for a Microtech LUDT on the second hand market. You should be able to find one in your budget. They are over-engineered knives and the button lock is one of the most reliable locks out there. The LUDT is a coilspring fired auto.

I'll try to post a pic:

Nah, no wheels. The Edge-Pro apex. The initial edge on the EDC was pretty good, so all I've had to do was to finish it up witu 180, 320 and 600 grit stones and finally 3000 polishing tape. D2 takes really keen edge.

There are two types of knives I trust the lock system with. One, the frame lock, Chris Reeves has my fav one. Two Benchmade's axis lock. I have two, the mini, and the full sized. Both do a great job.

As for having a blade close on me, it ALMOST happened with a cheap lockback and pocket lint. And my benchmade bit me with a liner lock. The lock had worn and didn't do well. It's been fixed but I have other knives I enjoy now.

What exactly is this polishing tape? I can get a nice polish with my strop and 10,000 grit green polish, but it does take me a while even when using a 1200grit dmt stone as my last step usually.

I checked the website but couldn't find polishing tape anywhere? Does it come in finer grits than 3000? Whate exactly is it? I see you are proficient with a digital camera, any chance of posting a pic of the sharpening stuff for us? Thanks for the time great website too. Good luck with it.

It's a white tape, that's used on the final stage. Works for several knives. Basically that's a sticky tape, you put it on the flat bar which is then clamped in the edge pro handle.

:) Honestly, I have no idea how does those grit numbers compaer with each other for different systems. Because edge pro 320 gives a lot smoother finish than DMT 1200, go figure. May be Ben could elaborate on this one.

The best to my knowledge they used to be in 2 grits, 2000 and 4000. Later 3000 replaced them both. I can't comment on the former 2, may be someone else could.

Thanks :) I'll take some pix of the edge pro stuff, was going to do that long time, never made it. I'll try to post pix. tomorrow.

When I used to work in retail, I carried my spyderco delica with me to work everyday. Used it to cut boxes and whatever else needs cutting. I guess you can say that I've used it pretty well these last few years and the lock has never failed on me. I have also recently acquired a spyderco vesuvius and I really enjoy it. I believe that the locking mechanism on the vesuvius is a great design and seems to be pretty sturdy. I have used it a few times but not as much as my trusty delica. For under $100, these knives are pretty good.

The integral/frame lock is the most secure I've seen. The three I have experience with are the CRK Sebenza, Camillus EDC and OE/ET Paragee. The Sebenza is by far the most secure. The EDC locks up very solidly. The Paragee can be flexed, but has never released on me.
If you are willing to spend the money, go with the Sebenza. The EDC is one hell of a knife for the money now that 154CM is standard.
The clips on the Sebenza and EDC are removable. The Paragee's clip is held on by the pivot screw and two smaller screws.
Sebenza is tip up, EDC and Paragee are tip down.
EDC and Paragee have ambi studs standard. Sebenza can be special ordered ambi or dedicated lefty.
