Folders with Most Comfortable Handles

A friend of mine is looking for a folder with handles comfortable enough for hard and long use. He doesn't like plastic, but micarta, aluminum, carbon fiber, is fine. His main concern is handle comfort. It must also have a clip and lock.
Any suggestions? I can't think of too many folders that would come close to a fixed blade in handle confort.

These things vary tremendously with personal preference. And some things are counterintuitive--e.g., folders with rectangular handles, like a BM 710, can be much more comfy than ones with round handles, which can rotate when you don't want them to.

I'd recommend seeing if a Spyderco Lil' Temperance fits your friend's hand. If so, the ergos are unbeatable.

Lil Temperance was one of my first throughts too. Or how about the Kershaw Bump?

The most comfy knife handles for me are the Sebenza, my Instigator, the Buck/Mayo TNT. these are all very, very comfy for me! But, because they are comfy for me, doesn't mean that they are going to be comfy for you.

If you could convince him that FRN (fiberglass reinforced nylon) is not plastic and does make a good knife handle then the Spyderco Native III has a VERY comfortable handle!

Some comfortable handled knives, to me anyway

Sebenza Classic Large

Spyderco
ATR, Persian, SS Endura, Native

Benchmade 732, 806, 710, & Large Ambush

Does he like G10? Because the AlMar Nomad is one of the best knives I've held in my hand in a long while. It is lined with stainless steel. I want one of them after doing some work for a guy on his. Great knife there.

Ask him what his thoughts are for G-10. In this case possibly a Spyderco Para-Military, which is comfortable and less likely to slip when wet. Spyderco also carries other models with the G-10.

+1 on the G-10 and micarta, but it's really going to depend on the size/shape of your friend's hands. Take him to a show or shop and have him handle a lot of knives.

The most comfortable knife I've ever held is my paramilitary. I love choils.

The Natives feel pretty good too...Kershaw Bumps (haven't tried the spec bump)...

Buck 560C has a very simple titanium handle that feels good....

The M16/M21 lineup feels really good.

I find the Manix/Chinook seem almost made for my hands specifically. The Lil T is also great. That is if he likes G-10. Also, if you can sway him on FRN the Native is great in hand and can be had for $40 at a Wal Mart.

hmmm... I actually found the Native to be uncomfortable... it was far too small for my hand, even with the choil...

They don't have clips, but the most comfortable knives in the hand I've ever held are the Buck folding hunters without exception.

#1 Buck Model 112 Ranger
#2 Buck Model 110 Folding Hunter

For some reason, the smaller 112 just feels a little better.

Nothing else is close and obviously there is no plastic. :D

In my opinion, any time you add a clip, you trade some comfort in the hand (with the possible exception of that Boker where the clip recedes into the handle when the blade is opened). If comfort in the hand is paramount, it seems a clip should be reconsidered.

If you don't like the 420HC steel on the Buck 110, you can also get one with a BG-42 blade made any way you like at the Buck Custom Shop, or one with a CPM S30V blade from Cabela's for only $60. You can't beat the edge geometry for slicing and the heat treatments are absolutely first rate.
