Well, break is coming up, so it is time to order some more knife kits. I will order the Lynx from Jantz and get 2 of them...one for me and one for a friend. Is that $16 spacer thingy worth it? can I use a piece of paper instead or should I try to find a cheaper cost spacer thingy somewhere else? A few more questions. Does koval sell blue Micarta or just G10? What is their phone number or website? Has anyone ordered g10 from McMaster-Carr? How is it? Also, what is the difference between red and maroon micarta from texas Knifemakers supply? thanks guys, once again for helping me out!

$16 spacer? What kind of spacer is that??? Most spacer material, assuming you mean the fiber spacer (usually red) that goes between the tang and the handle material for decorative purposes can be bought for a couple bucks a sheet from the usual supply places. Paper wouldn't work. The fiber spacers is like vulcanized paper, so it is very durable and finishes nicely. For $16 I think you may be looking at the wrong kind of spacer, or maybe I am misunderstanding you.
I have yet to see blue Micarta anywhere unless it was homemade from old blue jeans. Koval definitely has blue G-10 (shudder), but I haven't seen Micarta of that color before. Give them a call, though, because at the Badger show I did see white/blue/red/black laminated 1/4" thick pieces of Micarta, so maybe they can get plain blue, too. As far as G-10 from different companies, all G-10 SHOULD be the same. It is a standard product, so it shouldn't differ anyway from one place to another. Finally, the red Micarta is a bright red color, like brick red or fire engine red. Maroon Micarta is maroon or burgundy. When you finish it up and it absorbs a little oil from your hands, it turns pretty dark. The red is a lot brighter and is pretty cool-looking stuff. I like both.

my bad...the spacer thingy isn't a handle spacer, but a tool that has very thin pieces of metal so that you can get an even space between the liner and blade so it doesn't rub too much. Sorry for not making it clearer. I think I will try to maroon micarta from Jantz if they have it. I lied the black, but want something different that looks more non lethal than black. I figured a nice blue would look sweet, but i cant find any blue micarta. I saw the reconstitued lapsis lazuli stuff...the blue gemstone stuff on a website that was in german or something. that looked very nice for the lynx knife as a showy piece, but its 16 bucks, so I think i will stick with micarta.

You can use about anything for a spacer when you peen the pins as long as its the right thickness and won't smash down along with the pins.
Is the tool you saw for $16 the tune up tool that I told you about before? I thought they were alot cheaper than that. Maybe I'm wrong.
If you can't find a thin strip of metal to use as a shim like the other tool, you can also use a peice of micarta or flat steel thats just a little bit thicker than the tang of the blade. About .005" will do. All your looking for is soemthing to keep the handle from becoming to tight whe you peen the pins. All you have to do is put your shim/spacer in between the liners right at the base of the tang when the blade is open. Then peen you pins down nice and tight. When the pins are peened, pull the spacer out. If it was the right thickness the blade should work fairly easily without any play. Its ok if its a little tighter than you want it to be in the end, because it will loosen up a little after its been cycled a few times.
If you do find some thin metal use. Slip it between the tang and one of the liners while the knife is open and peen the pins. Then pull out the spacer when your done.
Either way should work, and whatever you use for a spacer can be used over and over since you take it out of the knife when your done peening the pins.
