Well I have definitely developed "Buck Fever" I really like the look of the folding Alpha hunter in rosewood and before I take the plunge wondered what peoples opinion of it is, I've looked on youtube for it but there are only a couple of videos on it.
Also thanks to everyone who answered my Ranger questions yesterday, you guys rule :)

The rosewood 154cm folding Alpha is definitely a nice knife. I have one, but it doesn't do anything I can't do with my 110s and 111s, so I don't use it much though it is a good user. If you want a collectable/display knife, you may want to look at the customized ones done by skilled craftsmen or a LE by Buck.
(my $.02) :)

PS. I should note that though I own several great liner locks, I prefer the lock back design unless you want/need one-handed opening.

Fantastic Design!! If you have a preference for a open back, liner lock, drop point its as fine as it gets. It is big and best suited for the belt sheath.

I have several and highly recommend it. gw

It is my favorite knife for whitetail hunting! I have a pair, one in ATS-34 and one 154CM. Both are rosewood.

I love that fact that they rinse through, they are alot easier to clean up than my 110's. With that said I do love my 110's though also ;)

I prefer the liner lock myself also ;)

I guess I was thinking "general use". For that kind of thing, the open back is better, but for that kind of thing I always use a fixed blade; even better.

I guess I was just thinking to answer Sawyers question about the rosewood alpha hunter ;)

I'm pretty much a folder type of guy :D I love the Alpha!!!!!!!!!!
My Pa always uses a fixed also, but I prefer the compact size of a nice folding knife! The Alpha hunter is very sturdy, and almost as good as a fixed blade only more compact for carry

For everyday, I carry a 110 or Vantage, or 303... TNT.

Alpha folder is a tad big for me for everyday. It is a great knife though, for whatever use you have in mind for it!

Thanks for the opinions guys. I am a folder guy myself and I like carrying sheath folders if I ever head out camping or such. I've got a 110 which I got just before christmas and I love it, but I'm also a knife knut. I'm not a hunter or anything, just like to have a good folder on me. I've been into Spyderco and Benchmade but recently I've gotten bored with them and been converted to Buck, they just seem more "outdoors" :)

Welcome to the Bucks! Glad to see you converted:D

I think you would be happy with the Alpha hunter for outdoors and camping etc. If you like to carry larger folders for EDC, you will probably like the alpha hunter also! Let us know your thoughts after you pick one up!!!!!!

Go for it. I bought one several years ago and now have about 12 of them. It has become one of my favorites.

I know David Martin has said he uses the heck out of them on the farm so he will be a very practical reviewer, but I'll let him do the tellling.

I hunted with mine last year although it didnt get the intended use:grumpy:. I also like to carry it in my pocket with jeans, cool to pull it out for some use, gets some looks not only because of imposing bulk but also sweet rosewood off-set by semi glossed steel:thumbup:

12 of them ! Thats a lot of Alpha's ! Its a strong built folder . My girls carry and use theirs a lot for all kinds of cutting . They don't let me touch them much . I do have one and use it . ;)DM

They fit larger hands well. Easy to open and close one handed.

And I like the vertical/horizontal carry abilities of the sheaths. Both leather one and cordura one.

I only have 3 (2 rubber handle, 1 wood) and would recommend them to anyone that wants a sheath folder. I use the rubber handled one most because it is more like a user and with the vertical or horizontal sheath it is the way to go. As Pack Rat said, they are very easy to open and close one handed (another plus). My wood handled one has a Bos blade and is a very good looking knife.

I picked up an extra set of rubber handles for my ATS34 rosewood one. Love the extra grip, and they are easy to swap out.

The only thing I don't like about my Alpha Hunter is that the liner lock is serrated and tends to saw into my index finger when I hold the knife while cutting. It's really irritating.

I forgot about the sheath carry options! And the smoooooooth opening/closing of the Alphas! :D

The Alpha Hunter is the smoothest opening and closing knife that I own, also one of the strongest. It is one of my top three favorite knives and if I had to leave in a hurry, you can bet that the Folding Alpha would be on me.

Not long ago I got a folding Alpha in trade and I am really impressed with it. Super smooth opening and closing great fit and finish and the way mine locks open is very good.
I haven't used it much yet but plan on using it as my outdoors folder in the future and I am very confident in it's ability.

Well I went ahead and ordered one, all your positive opinions totally convinced me. Hopefully it will be here for the weekend, and I can't wait :D
