Folding Alpha Hunter Opinions

Stelth, Could you take it apart and smooth it up with a diamond file ?
Sawyer, What did you order ? Standard steel, rubber grips or 154CM and rosewood grips ? DM

I ordered the 154CM Rosewood. I like the whole wood, leather combo.

It arrived today and I love it! I was a bit concerned that it was going to be a huge knife but I think it's the perfect size, it feels great in the hand and I can't wait to put it to some use. Here's a few photos I took of it...

Congrats on getting a great knife, Sawyer, and thanks for the pics!

Thanks for your pics too, zyhano. It looks like you are having entirely too much fun by that fire. ;)

I have carried a Buck Alpha Hunter 279T for 10 years. So far it is as bullet proof as a folder can be. I am now the proud grandfather of two grandsons both at present to young for any kind of sharp blade. I want to hand down a Alpha Hunter to each of them. In that vain I have just purchased two used models. The original that I bought new 10 + years ago is a 279T. What the blade steel is I don't know. My guess is 420 or 440. I just received a used 277 off eBay in 154 CM with Bos heat treat. There is some staining on the blade but I want them all to be used when I hand them down so that means nothing. The 277 is a shinier steel but no less robust than my 10 year old 279 T. I have one other coming also a model 277 but in 12C27M steel. It hasn't been used but I am thinking it may become my main Alpha Hunter. I have heard good things about 12C27M steel. I will let you know more when I get it in my hands which should be tomorrow. I know what follows is sappy but so be it. Some day in the future I want to be spending time with one of my grandsons the oldest is about 5 years old and in Oregon the other is just 2 and living with me in Nevada. I want to do something using my Alpha Hunter something that will draw the youngsters attention. Maybe it is making a fire stick then turning it in to a fire maybe we will be out camping. Who knows. Just a grandpa/grandson moment but he learns something of importance. Then I take it off my belt and hand it to him. I tell him I am an old man with many years under my belt. I ask him to watch over my old friend for me. Use it well and when the time is right hand it to his son or grandson. I mean how sappy is that? More tomorrow when I get the Alpha Hunter in Swedish steel. The next post will include pics of all three knives.
