I know this tread is old but I am going to add my two cents. I have carried a 279 for most of the last 10 years enough to wear through the cordera sheath on both ends and I carry it inline with my belt for easy one handed in and out. I have had no problems with this knife it is as tight as the day I bought it. It opens butter smooth. I have cut cardboard, plastic strap and well as metal strapping (damn thick to.) I have opened it thousands of times. It is a brute of a knife and i have nothing but good to say about it. I bought two off ebay in the last couple days and plan to give one to my grandson one day. He is only two so plenty of time yet. I have been carrying a knife since before I was in cub scouts and 63 now. I hope he appresicates a good knife as much as I do. One of the ones I bought has Sandvick steel I am very interested to see what I think of it.
 
I just bought a 277 off eBay in 154CM it locks up like a tank. This is my second Alpha Hunter model and I have another coming tomorrow. These things will see us all out. Build like a tank is to say the least.
