I like mine to be around 3.5 inches normally with some exceptions, like my para mil. In general the 3.5 inch blades have more all around versatility, and are suited for a wider variety of tasks.

3" for me. All plain edge as well. My Mini Striker and my Boker Trance are great sized-knives. Small enough to ride in my pocket well and big enough to handle almost anything that I might encounter in my day.

If I need something bigger I usually go to a 4+" fixed blade.

I myself voted for the "Four Inch" category; some of my favorite EDCs are at the four-inch mark, including the Benchmade 710D2 and the Spyderco Military, Police3, etc. I do like the 3.44-inch blade of my Doug Ritter RSK Mk1 as well.

2.5-3" is all I need , anything requiring more is fixed blade territory .

My preference is at least 4 inch. That size blade gives me the most utility while still being easy to carry. I do have two blades with 4 1/2 inch blades but they do not get carried as often due to bulk.

Thank you for creating an original, different thread! This is a great question.

You're most welcome, it's the kind of thread that custom as well as production
makers might be interested in and gather some thoughts, though we are a small
part of the world, we do impact the trends some times, so every little bit
of information can be important.

For all my needs 3.5" blade length work is the best, most of my chors can be done even with 3" blade. My vote went to 3.5".

3.5" to 4".

Current work knife: 1st Gen. Sypderco Endura, Stainless Handled, PE

Non-work, self-defense: Benchmade AFCK, full size, CE

I had a full size Spydie Persian that was stolen when my car was broken into. I still miss that knife.

I prefer a 3.5" blade. Ideal for every task I do with a knife on most days. While it isn't great at all of them, it is at least good.

3.5 to 4 inches long blade would be my preference for a folder. You should have had a category for that,Gary:D.

Yah, that should have read 3 1/2" not feet, slip of the fingers!
but you still need to choose which one is closest to the size
you prefer, 4" is probably more in line with your favourites I'd say ;)

I like 3.0 because I feel 3.5 is a bit to big. I also run in to times when 3.0 seems small, I'd like to see more 3.25 blades.
If there are any good ones out there please let me know.

i voted 3.5

anywhere from 3 to 4 is fine for me though. my three most common edc's are a blur (kciwk: a GREAT 3 1/4 blade. get the s30v), a s&w 4" swat, and bm 710d2.

Nothing really over 4", but the Spyderco Police 3 would work.

I love my Military, and the more I use it, the more I become used to having a nice big handle to grip. However, I'll do 3" or less (T-Mag or something) if I know I'm going to be in a place that it would be socially awkward to pull a 4" knife out in public to trim some thread or open something up.

The main blade on my Schrade 34OT is close to 2-1/2" and suits me just fine.
