Folding choices

If you are in and out of water alot (lakes, rivers, the ocean, pools, and such) then the Spyderco is a good choice.
But I would probably prefer the new Spyderco PACIFIC SALT.
It's like the Salt I but is roughly the size of the Endura.

Now if you don't plan to constantly be wet and in-and-out of water, the the Benchmade is without a doubt the better choice.
IMHO, the Griptilians are THE best deal going in quality one-hand folders being produced today.

And while the 550 is great, I would (and did) personally choose the 551 drop-point Griptilian.
The thumbstuds worked better than the oval thumbhole.
I would prefer the plain-edge too, but that's another thread altogether!

The Rat Trap looked real nice but I simply cannot recommend a liner-lock.
Long live the AXIS-LOCK!

Good luck and happy hunting,
Allen.

Spydie Salt is my pool knife. Really nice knife, even though mine is a little beat up from, well, pool use. .

I'd go against the grain and pick the Swamp Rat over the Griptilian. I gots to get me one of those. I just got my first SR a few months back and it's one heck of a knife. Plus, call me what you will, but I like my liner locks. My brother's got a McHenry & Williams Axis, and while I don't mind using it there are a bajillion other knives I'd rather use.

What do you want to do with this knife?? Is it just your average EDC??

The Swamp Rat may have an unconditional warrenty. They are disscussing the prospect of limiting the warrenty now but aren't sure what to do. I am waiting to hear the outcome before I get one.

I have a griptilian and find that it is a little anoying to carry. The handle is a little thick and the aggressive checkering tends to rub my hand the wrong way when digging in my pocket. Other than that, Great Knife.

I've never heard of the Boye Knife but it looks way over priced for what you get.

There are a ton of great spydies that can be had for $50. Unless you need the extra corrosion resistance of the salt you may want to check out some of the other spydies. Try and Endura, I'm sure you will love it. :D

Hmm... There're so many black plastic knives around today that it's hard to say which one of those I'd choose. None of them seem unique or interesting. My Spyderco Endura, Bucklite, and Gerber Gator all seem like good knives too, and you won't spend too much.

Best Wishes,
-Bob

Check out the Spyderco Endura, BM's Griptilian, Cold Steel's Voyager series and the CRKT Ryan Model 7.

David Boye's knives are unique. The blades are cast of a cobalt alloy, practically corrosion-proof. The grain structure due to the casting process creates micro-serrations that aid slicing, even when the edge seems dull. He calls it dendritic cobalt. They are targeted toward a sailor's market but would also be excellent for food prep. Not advised for tectical use, like prying or chopping, although the blades aren't actually fragile.
