Folding flipper style knife?

It's pretty easy. Usually, the "spring" is just a heat-treated bar with the ends bent perpendicular to the rest of the spring. It is located in a recessed section of the scale under the non-locking liners. The ends are placed one in the tang of the blade (as the blade rotates it reduces/releases spring tension, which maxes around mid-way open) and one somewhere in the liner or backspacer, etc.

thanks for that. once the AO spring is taken out is it reasonable to think that most of the former-AO's would then open with an action similar to a knife designed without AO in the first place...let's say my Skyline? Or would the action be much more difficult to flip open as one of the major design components is removed.

I recognize flippers vary as far as how much pressure you need to apply to the flipper in order to open the blade, I'm just looking for a general comparison. Thanks!
