check this out!   wonder how much it costs thru the online dealers?

http://www.emersonknives.com/Karambitintro.htm

how does it compare to the soon-to-be-launched BOSS knives' folding kerambit? Mike Turber, how realiable are the liner locks on the folding kerambit? I'm thinking of getting one, once it is produced on slightly better steel..... :D

You know whats even more amazing??? The  P:eek: R:eek: I:eek: C:eek: E:eek:!!! $$$$450 that makes me dizzy! Thats more than custom dealers have quoted me. I understand paying some cash to get a good, quality self defense knife (and Emerson is a good brand...don't get me wrong) but that is waaay waay WAAAAAYYY to much for a blade that is a little over 2 and 1/2 inches. And it is made from the same exact materials as the Commander models. 154CM Steel blade, titanium liners and G-10 handle...nothing new here. I do understand that it may be the only folding Karambit out there but holy moley!! I think this knife is sweet but I would NEVER pay that much for a knife even if it was made from materials discovered by man yesterday and used in space propulsion engines. Anyone have any idea why Emerson is charging so much for this guy?

$450 is for hand ground pre-production models as I understand.
I think once they come out as full production pieces, the price will really drop. I hope so anyway.

Anybody look at the demo video's on that site?
Ernie is a FAST mo-fo .

The Emerson Combat Systems Kerambit training tapes look good to me too... been playing with making some kerambits, be nice to know more about how to fight witht hem, than just my own hypothesis and theories.

Eventually I'll be getting a Emerson Combat Karambit, I would get one now, actually, if i had the cash... but waiting is cool too... will pay less I am sure.

I didn't realize that was a pre-production collector's price. I was really upset because I would love to have one of those guys if the price is right.
On another note. Ernie IS a fast mo-fo. I've seen footage of him before and I guess this doesn't surprise me. Although it still is fun to watch him. If you bought this knife, you would almost have to get the tape set so you could learn from it. My understanding is that there are lots of kerambit video out there for instruction but it may be different with the folder. I hope the price isn't too high when the release comes!!

Something weird is going on with the production versions. Retail is something like $225 on the full production models. I read in several places that the entire production run will be sent to a single dealer in Japan. That dealer will probably make the knives available in the US as well, though with a monopoly on this knife, I'm sure we'll be paying full retail. What I've heard made it sound as if this dealer is getting all the production models, not just the first production run.

That's where things get weird. I'm not an Emerson fan or an EKI fan ... but this kerambit has me as excited as any knife introduction I've seen. If it can get my heart pumping, I can only imagine how EKI's loyal customers feel. Restricting access to a single dealer doesn't make sense to me, unless EKI is doing this just for this run (to bring up the level of excitement), and is going to put this in full distribution for the next run.

I believe the production models are slated to cost in the $230 range. It is an exclusive knife for a Japanese distributor, but it will also be available for sale in the US.

The $450 knife is serial numbered and hand ground. IIRC, there will only be something like 100 made. Considering the number of serious collectors, I doubt they will be around for long. The pre-productions, which were hand-ground by Mr. Emerson, recently sold in the $1100-$1200 range. Although, you probably can't buy another one at that price, as no one is willing to part with theirs.

I can't wait for the production model. If I could afford one of the hand ground one's, I would pre-order it today.

It's a very awesome knife. Check out the videos at www.emersonknives.com

Joe,

I believe EKI is just doing the same thing as the SOCFK, the I&I tanto, the CQC 8, etc..

I would bet it probably will only be available at full retail.

And I doubt it will go to full production.

it's nice to know everyone's as excited as I am. I think it's way too expensive tho', even at $230 retail - for such a short blade in 154cm. I want one for Christmas, if there's a kind soul out there.
::p :rolleyes: :D

The design is wicked. Question: will it be chisel ground or v-ground?

The quality of the BOSS version should be well worth the $24.95 asking price and perhaps more but that is tooting my own horn. I will let you all decide when they come out in about 30-45 days. Stay Tuned as we have a fixed blade in the works too :)

hotswat,
holy moley! that warren thomas folding kerambit is super fantastic!   do you know where one can get it? how much does one cost? what's yamashita? I don't read japanese, so pls help....

mike turber,

i'm definitely going to get the folding kerambit.. the only thing making me hesitate is that you mentioned that it may be produced in better steel, like AUS6 or even AUS8 soon....I definitely like that design...Liong Mah even told me how it could be used to cut rope...yep, using the cigar cutter finger hole...except that the blade doesn't close fully within the hole....

when is it going to be produced in AUS6 or AUS8, I can't wait...

if the emerson kerambit can be obtained for less than $150 - I'm definitely getting it....lately, I've been fantisizing about folding kerambits...

are there any other folding kerambits for sale, or other pictures of folding kerambits? right now, I've only seen:

Liong Mah / JSP
szabo
emerson
BOSS
warren thomas

anyone have other links....?

thanks,
spyken

I know I can't wait for the Boss line to take off...but a question for Mike...are the pivots adjustable??? The pics I have seen look they aren't.
Matt

Hey Spyken,

I don't read japnese either I found the website and I go back because they have some awesome pics of some awesome knives. I don't know the conversion from yen to dollars. I like to know the price myself.

The pivots are adjustable and I even designed the tool :)
Looks like a big cows butt!
Take a look at the BOSS News thread.

It will be at least until Blade Show next year before we get a better than 420HCSS but Buck and others use a nearly identical steel and it holds up pretty well.

But I will let you all decide. Tell your dealers about them and that you want them :)

86,000 yen is $718.00 US. That is really high.

I have not seen this knife for sale in the U.S. to know what it would cost over here.

WOW In Zambia that would be 3,343,438.80 ZMK
Zambia Kwacha!

The Liong Mah/Boss version would be a steal at 116,415.00 ZMK
Zambia Kwacha!

This folding Kerambit from Boss could be a good knife.

The fact that Liong Mah is getting credit for this design is wrong.

He had an Idea and asked for my help with making it work and I did.
I came up with the files and the prototypes and did a run of 20 knives.
Without me that knife would not have happend.
Therefore that is as much mine as it is his.
Just some Bad Blood.
This should not be the standard of the buisness and It should be expossed.
