Folding Knife instead of small Fixed, when carrying a Large Fixed blade

Alot of folders are tougher than they get credit for. A fixed blade is only as tough as its most narrow part.

Entirely possible, but you still have the whole fixed v folders issue again... ease of maintenance, durability, more working parts to fail, limitations of design, etc. If I had to take one INSTEAD of a fixed blade, not in addition to, it would be the Svord peasant-good quality high carbon steel with a real slicing edge, belly, durable spine and good working point. Very few folders are designed like that.

My fairly common group.

I like the convenience a folder provides. There are many great folders as well. There is one reason I like the Axis lock as a back up knife when hunting, camping etc.

If the omega springs would go, the lock is not rendered useless unlike many others if their spring would break. Here is what I mean:

I carry this with a few other folders, Chris Reeve Insingo, Burger EXK, SAK. I like to use them all when and how I feel like it to at least get a feel for them. I usually carry a small fixed blade (mora or lately my own home made one) and an Axe. If weight is a concern I will keep the axe and it is a toss up between the 550HG (or incoming Bone Collector) and the Insingo. Great knives that can handle pretty much anything (I am not going to discuss high end vs what ever, I base my opinions on how they have performed for me and both can handle what I need them to, the Chris Reeve is my luxury item that brings me great joy and pride) if I was to go with a folder.

I use a combo myself... I EDC a Spydie Delica (original serrated) in my pocket, my Leatherman "Wave" and a Buck Paklite "Skinner" in my carry everywhere bag (along w/my passport). And usually my Trailmaster if i'm carrying my camera bag (Kata 3n1-30).

I always carrying at least one folder with me wherever I am (except federal facilities and airplanes). It is usually a CRK Umfaan and an SAK, although my Spyderco Stretch II is seeing a huge amount of pocket time these days.
