So I have a guy that wants me to make him some folding knives.
This will be my first time trying so I have some question.
1. Is there any good book, videos, or tutorial on the net that would help
2. What is the best handle steel to use.

Also the type of knife would be a liner-lock folder.

Any information would help
Thanks

Go to Center Cross video and get "making a liner lock folder" by Don Robinson

Good for you Eric !!! That's pretty darn good for the first one !!! A good material to use for folder patterns can be Arborite . You can but pieces cat very good prices. Frank

Eric there is an Incredible book out there called
Custom Knifemaking: 10 Projects from a Master Craftsman.

I made two folders from the the book. The projects are very detailed. The drawing are spot on. He leads you in right direction. He warns you of problems.
It really take the head ache out of it. Let you have the fun. I send you the drawing if you like. The book is well worth the 15.00. Just email me if you need the drawings I have.

When cutting and drilling small part like folder parts drill them before you cut. Cut all of your fine details before you cut it off your billet. Don't try to cut the part off and try to finish cutting it. That is what I learned early on.

Eric I built my prototypes in plexiglass. It is cheap. Looks kinda cool. Feels like a real knife. Here is my first Folder.

Get ready to throw stuff!!! I started making folders and the wife started a swear jar! So far she is up on me by about 30 bucks.

Bob T tactical folding knife is a great read and the only folder (making ) book i have in the house
things to keep in mind every thing flat (scales , blade overlays ) parallel and/or perpendicular then keep the pivot pin close as you can to the pivot hole for the least wobble

theres lock fit up and detent ball fit but all the other stuff comes first
