I'm pretty new to making knives. I've made roughly a dozen or so. All of my knives to this point have been fixed blades. I have always wanted to attempt to make my own folders but I have no idea where to start. I can't find a whole lot in terms of tutorials or anything on the internet and from what I gather it is not an easy process. By no means am I asking for a step by step. I was just curious, for those who have attempted/made folding knives, do you think it is a doable project for someone whose still just starting out?

Here's one of the slickest I've read so far. While This one contains many WIPs. And since I haven't actually made any knives yet, I'll shut up and let someone else answer the rest of the questions.

I have less knives than you under my belt, and maybe half of them were liner locks. It really depends on your comfort level and aptitude for the mechanics involved, but if you feel intimidated by the locking systems, you could always do a slip joint. Plenty sturdy, useful, and simple to build.

The tutorials that got me to build mine:

Rick is right about the hardest thing of making folders is grinding them.
If its a slipjoint $5 dollar box at a local gunshow, take it apart, remake the
parts and by the time you get it together you will have learned a lot. If there's
an easier method early on I wish I would have known about it.
Ken.
