Folding saw

I've got a Gerber (also branded Fiskars) sliding saw and consider it one of the best $10 purchases I ever made.
it cuts great, and if you screw up and push while under tension, the blade is easy to bend back mostly straight with not much chance of damaging or snapping it.

agreed, for 3 oz this saw performs wonderfully

would I build a log cabin w/ it?- no; suitable for building a lean-to or debris shelter and stocking in some firewood- absolutely :)

Those silky's do look nice. I think I might pick up one of the large blade models that would allow two hands on the saw. It's a 10.75" inch blade I think.

I have the 10" Fiskar's sliding saw.

The extra length does help with larger diameter stuff.

In my hunting pack, I carry the 6" Gerber folding saw for pruning, making blinds, etc.

I can recommend both without hesitation.

love the small fiskar/gerber slide saw, want to get the larger one.

I have used mine for at least 8 years and bought the grippier one with the lashing holes.

can't be beaten for price, there are better saws but I have never needed them.

If I have the luxury of using a large bow saw, I'd go with that. But for something that I'm actually going to carry — and use — I'll go with my Silky saw Super Accel 210. Best saw I've ever used — and I've used quite a few. Some mentioned that "it only cuts on the pull stroke" like that was a negative: it's not — saws that cut on the pull stroke are far less likely to bend. The Silky cuts more efficiently than any other folding saw I've ever used, bar none. If you haven't tried one, you should: the difference is worth experiencing.

Some say "yeah, but it cost $15 more than brand X." Yep. And it stays sharp and lasts a lot longer, too. I'm continually amazed by people who think nothing of paying hundreds of dollars for a knife, yet balk at paying $35 for what is, arguably, their second most important piece of woodcrafting gear. That doesn't make much sense to me, but what do I know?

Agreed. A good saw is worth the money. My silky outcuts much longer saws. Must the the extreme toothiness :)

Like Dawsonbob, I prefer the Super Accel 210. I've used the Pocketboys quite a bit. If my memory serves me, the SA 210's blade is at least 18% thicker than the Pocketboy 170 and 40mm longer. However, because the SA210 uses a very high-quality aluminum frame instead of the steel frame on the PB170, the weight difference is minimal.

I've never broken a PB170 but if my alignment isn't just right I've experienced more flex in the thinner blade than with the SA210. And as noted by several prior posters, a 40mm longer blade can ease your sawing on thicker branches.

I really like the gerber folding saw with the zytel handle, I'm not sure if they still make it, but that's the best damn folding saw I ever had. I've cut down whole trees with it.

I will give a thumbs up to the Silkys. dern nice saws. I am a bit suprised that the Felco #600 hasn't been mentioned. It has a bit larger teeth than some of the other saws, and in my experience it rips through wood about twice as fast as my comparably-sized Bahco folder. Also, the hooked pommel end of the handle is a nice feature when your hands are cold/wet/gloved.

Silky....Get a BigBoy if you are cutting bigger wood.

Sawvivor 18 inch...replace the busted rivet with nuts and bolts and you're golden

What, no 210?

When I phoned the customer service guy at Silky's U.S. office, he told me that the SA 210 is their largest selling folder and the Zubat 330 the largest selling fixed blade. I was surprised that they sell more SA 210s than Pocketboys---even though I like it a little better.

I originally looked at the Pocket Boy, but I liked the specs on the SA 210 better, so I went with that. I'm glad I did. The extra cutting length really does come in handy, and the thing cuts like a champ: best folding saw I've ever used.
