i figured a folding saw is easier to use that instead of a hatchet/axe or machete

whats a good brand

Silky.

Best folding saws I've ever used. I keep one (I think it's the "Big Boy") in my RV and have abused the hell out of it. They have a variety of sizes and I've never heard anyone say something negative about them.

i use silky and bahco.

both are great.

the bahco is lighter but the silky gives you the option of what blades to use (large teeth to fine teeth)

The Trail Blazer Sawvivor 15" or 18" models. While this isnt technically a folding saw its a collapsible one but still a great camp saw or just an around the house option, and if you break it ive heard that Trail Blazer has an excellent, practically no questions asked warranty(that means alot to me). Oh, and your only looking at about 9.5 Oz on the 15" one if weight is a big issue.

I have had a Corona for over 20 years.
Pretty close to dirt cheap.
Never had a problem with it.
I've known a few in the tree business and they seemed to stay loyal to the Corona saws.
Good tools.

My wife bought me one of these "What-A-Saw" items years ago:

Forget the cheesy "as seen on TV!" ads, it's a quality item. I've had mine at least 20 years and it's still in use with the original blades.
I've used it for trail clearing, yard maintenance, tree trimming.... Comes with three blades (standard, tree-trimming, and hacksaw) all of which fold up into the aluminum back.
Quick to set up, lightweight.... Has served me well.

I have Bacho Laplander, Gerber Exchange-A-Blade, Gerber Gator Exchange-A-Blade, Fiskars SoftGrip and Chas Ohlson folding saws and like 'em all.

And a Gerber Sportsman (sliding saw).

That apart, I suspect that I'll also buy a Silky Saw too, as I like good tools.

My personal favorite of the above saws is... The Gerber Sportsman, as it weighs nothing and cuts like a demon!

Gerber Sportsman, GB Mini and a Mora Clipper weigh very little and do a great deal!

Another vote for Silky!
The super accel is a great sturdy saw. I've been using the hell out of mine for about 2 years now, and still cuts like the day I got it.
If you just want to keep something as a backup, you just cant go wrong with the light weight $12 Gerber/Fiscars sliding saw.
