Folding Saw

I just returned my sawvivor for a Laplander, it worked fine but its so big it makes you think you can saw big logs but that just makes it warp and bend and get all flimsy. Luckily theres a great store up here called Mountain Equipment Coop where you can return stuff even years later if your not happy. Ill tell you guys the problem with sawvivor: rivets. Instead of screws you can tighten and replace the whole thing is riveted together, it works okay but they bend instead of loosen the the whole frame is out of whack, you end up needing to turn that red tensioner over and over again to keep the blade taught. If you buy the sawvivor dont let the blade size fool you, dont saw anything over 5 inches. Sorry for the wall of text but Ive dealt with sawvivor woes that I want you guys to avoid. Go Bahco Laplander and dont turn back.

I've got one of those Bahco saws, not the green Laplander, but an orange one. Mine has a blade on it for dry wood and the Green one has a blade for wet wood. Either way extra blades can be gotten. It's an excellent saw for $23.

That's what I'm looking for, where did you find it for that?

I've found the orange Laplander at Mountain Equipment in Canada.
The item description doesn't say anything about a different blade though.
I'm waiting for Ben's Backwoods to restock the green ones.
He has a shipment coming in a couple of weeks.
$23 is a good price. I'm paying slightly more.

Loooong way to go for a saw :D For once I can easily get gear an American cant  I got the orange one from MEC also and Im happy as a clam, much easier to find if dropped compared to forest green. Ive actually heard terrible things about the replacement blades, that theyre not the same as the stock ones... Well see.

Hey.. all you guys going to Lowes. Right by those saws, pruners, and stuff you'll see this thing about as long as a pen that says "carbide blade sharpener" or something like that. Those are the best firesteel strikers ever!

Thanks for the heads-up.

Here's another heads up...
At the Great Wall of China (Walmart), I picked up a Fiskar's 7" folding saw tonight.
The grip is fantastic, and the lock is pretty good too. Looking forward to trying it out.

Have to check it out next time I'm there. The one at Home Depot was junk.
Blade had at least 3/8 play at the pivot (serious) I was surprised, because
a lot of folks on BF like the hatchets.

I use a Felco, simply because this is what our company provides our guys for work.

Ive always been happy with it

Found a comparison pic I'd taken of the Corona and the Fiskar's 10" sliding saw.

I have a Sven saw which seems to be a good one. No real field time, but it has handled some gardening chores well.

Does anyone have the Opinel saw? It looks really great for a lightweight, dependable saw.

That is a sliding blade.
And here's a pic of the folder I just got at the The Great Wal of China.
For $11, I figured it was worth a shot.

$11 ... amazing isn't it. I drive my wife crazy somethimes when I see something like that. Get my economics hat on and start ... "how can they do that? Shipping, materials, labor, Wally still has to make a profit too (even it is it razor thin retail) yada, yada, yada, "

I know it's made in China with 50 cent per hour labor, mass production, economies of scale, etc. - but still amazes me.

She finally either just tells me to STFU (shut the F up) or just walks away
with me chattering away. LOL
