Folding saws - the good, the bad, and the fugly

I tried a lot of different folding saws before I ponied up and got a Silky Saw and soon came to the realization that I was not wasting my money buying the Silky Saw, I had already wasted money getting to that point. That being said I think the Bahco Laplander is a good value and I have not tried an Opinel saw nor the discontinued Spyderco saw.

I have had pretty good luck with one of these cheap Coghlan's Sierra Saws...usually cost $10 or less

Yes they are a good saw, I carried one in my Rucksack while in the Army and used it in the field all the time, I just picked up a 10 inch Corona saw from a major home improvement store for $17.00 Dollars and that is a great deal too! I will be picking up two silky saws soon. I am a firm believer in sawing your way to survival.

I use Misc. Silky for work (as a carpenter) and in the out of doors. If I don't have one in reach, I use the saw on my Leatherman Wave.

My favorite folders are the Silky Gomboy (med. teeth) and the 18" Trailblazer take-down bucksaw. I think the Bob Dustrude folding bucksaw is next on my list to try. I'm under the impression it's the best of the bunch.

Playing around with the Tajima G-Saw and the Pocket saw:D

Hey! One that floats ...

Tried a few, but there's always that perfect one out there that would be worth trying.

Then there is my trusty Trailblazer for campfire and property. One always in the porch ready to work and always one in the vehicle. Yesterday it came in handy clearing out some strainers caught by a fallen maple tree during the spring flood. Working from canoe.

Go for it, you won't be disappointed.

sven saw. looks similar in design to the silky stuff that's being raved about. had one for years, it's so nice I never thought to look for something else. quick googling and it seems it still available

The Corona from Lowe's or wherever is good and American made. I use the Coghlan's because it's cheap, light, works, and I don't do much sawing. The Sven saw is also really good.
