Folding tanto?

Thanks for any and all recommendations. My brother loves folding tantos and is looking for something to carry on duty--he is a Police Officer. This is an area I know nothing about as my interests are in fixed blades and traditional knives.

He has a budget a little north of $100. Nothing terribly tacticlol. As a reference, his Grail is the Cold Steel Hatamoto.

Again, thanks for your help!!

Cold Steel Recon 1 Tanto in CTS-XHP sounds like a match for him. It's designed as a duty knife, very tough and still an effective slicer.

If he likes Cold Steel, they make a variety of folding knives with tanto blades.

A few are- Code 4, Recon 1, and Recon 1 mini.

The Code 4 can be found for around $75. The Recon 1 for around $70. And the Recon 1 mini for around $60.

And they make a variety of others at higher prices.

The Benchmade Stryker has a tanto version that appeals to me, but it's around $150.

The Kershaw link comes in a tanto configuration, it quite cheap and is actually a quite decent knife. The Griptillian also comes in a tanto version as well, although it might or might not fit the budget depending and where you look. But since you said he like cold steel you could look into the recon 1 (smaller version tend to be less than $100) or the code 4.

Kershaw Blur comes in tanto style.
Well south of $100
CTS-BDZ1 or Sandvik 14c28n
(Very similar steels)
Great EDC knife...

The CS's are a solid option too...

Not folders but popular with LE ...

KaBar TDI LE (3.6") or TDI/Hinderer Hell Fire (3.6")

I recommend the Code 4. It was designed to be the perfect EDC for LEOs. F&F and QC are superb, and it comes super friggin' sharp! Very thin in pocket and light, but the ergonomics are still awesome.

Look around and find one of these in AUS8 for 50-60 bucks. Will do everything you need for half the price of the newer steel, since a cop is unlikely to need a knife to cut manila rope a 1000 times

Hogue ex01 is a nice knife available with a tanto grind, it comes in g10 or aluminum with either 3.5" or 4 " blade. I own the 4" g10 drop point version and really like it.

Even the Voyager series from Cold Steel would be good. New or old series, check the Exchange here or ebay for deals.

A few that I own and would recommend to a LEO without hesitation are the aforementioned Hogue and Cold Steel models, and the Buck/TOPS CSAR-T. The CSAR-T is pretty big and beefy for those of us working in an office all day, but would be right at home on a duty belt, either on the clip or included holster/sheath. I have the 154CM version with TOPS' "Rocky Mountain Tread" grips; I believe it was previously offered in ATS-34 steel instead. It does fit into the "folding pry bar" category, though.

A couple less mentioned from the norm. Kizer Shadow ki4430) gives you s35v at a reasonable price, also I'm not sure who is making them, (USA made though), but the Browning "Black Label" series has gotten pretty good reviews from all I've heard, and they make one right up your alley; pretty sleak, all black, with clean looking g10 and a 4 way adjustable clip; "perfect storm".
HTM (K.L.) Snap with the grenade grips are clean looking too, or If you can stretch the budget a bit further north
(Or maybe shop around and find a deal)
Combative Edge M1comes assisted or manual...
