Well, I am not sure such knife even exist...:rolleyes:
I would like to find a knife that is:
1. folder with blade about 85mm long, definitely not longer than 90mm and definitely not shorter than 82mm. If the blade is longer than this, then it should be less than 2.5mm thick;
2. Can be opened with one hand and be used easily by left-hander;
3. Good edge retention and easy to sharpen;
4. Have a reliable lock;
5. Be strong enough for use for skinning and cutting between bones of animals, i.e. some light prying;
6. Have sufficiently comfortable handle that it does not get slippery when it is covered with animal fat and blood;
7. Blade with belly, so the blade should be about 30mm wide;
8. Have pocket clip;
9. Can be disassembled for cleaning and removing all play from the blade – in case I need to baton it;
10. Comfortable for cooking works, like cleaning vegetables, cutting them;
11. Comfortable handle that I could work relatively hard wood for long duration (2-3 hours) without getting blisters;
12. Beautiful – blade from Damascus, handle preferably from wood or mammoth;
13. Something relatively limited, not custom-made, but at the same time not too popular brands like Spyderco, Victorinox, Opinel;
14. Good warranty, I will let you decide what it means;
I am really thinking at the moment about large Sebenza, but it’s blade is more than 90mm long and more than 3mm thick so not good.
Do you know any such knife?:confused:
Thanks.

What about a Benchmade 635 Mini-skirmish with a damascus blade? Otherwise you could have a truly special CUSTOM knife made for you :D.

The Sebbie will perform all the functions you want. Why is the thickness a negative for you? Just curious.

i think you could probably mod an opinel ( add the pocket clip and ambidextrous thumb stub) and still come in undeer $20.

Thats a tall order to fill!

I know a lot of knives but none meet all your specifications.

What are the 3 most important characteristics you want/need in a knife?

I don't know if these completely fit your description, but a Spyderco Para-Military or mini-Manix (if you can find one) would work very well.

Edit, nevermind, I see you don't want Spyderco, etc. In that case, not aware of anything like what you listed.

Why does it have to be really thin? 2.5mm is:

1 inch = 2.5cm
2.5mm/25mm = 0.1"

I found it, the Benchmade NRA line, an NRA Steigerwalt, it's the size of a sodbuster, has either 440C or D2 steel (whichever version you find), has green micarta handles, has a springless lockback, and is .10" thick. I own one and I've batoned through hardened mesquite down here in south texas.

I used it during a bar-b-q, worked great and split up my firewood and was still shaving sharp afterwards. Great knife and you can find them for about ~$50 on the bay.

Hope this helps, J.

Wait a minute, you said about 90mm and 3mm thick, right?

90mm is:

90mm/25mm = 3.6"

3mm is:

3mm/25mm = .12"

Those are just about the exact stats of a Large Sebenza. You could even get an Emerson knife for those stats, for example, the CQC-10 is smaller than 3.6" and is .125" thick. The .005" doesn't make it that much thicker than .12".

Emersons and Sebenzas were made to be taken apart and used and abused. If you have the cash to drop, get a sebbie with dual thumb lugs for your optional left hand use.

Where's the Damascus blade and mammoth ivory handle?

Your killing me :grumpy:.

You can get a sebbie with ivory if you request it and fork over an arm to go with the kidney to get the sebenza. They also make those with damascus blades. Might as well pay for a custom, you could try the Knifemakers area of BF and find a reputable maker there. Just trying to help, quite a big order to fill :p.

Well, I was thinking about large Sebenza mammoth ivory and damascus blade, but the blade length is 93mm and the thickness is 3.1 something mm. I travel sometimes to a country where you must have a permit for such knives (blade length more than 90mm if the thickness is more than 2.5mm), so, unfortunately, it does not fit the bill.
Benchmade does not fit - it is quite popular, like Spyderco, I want more exclusive brand.
And, unfortunately, I cannot remove any of the requirements - what is the point of paying a lot of money for a knife if it does not satisfy my requirements for travelling abroad? It can be confiscated and me prosecuted as the worst case...
Cheers.

It appears that this knife is going to be your soulmate so be willing to spend on it. Talk to CRK - I'm sure they can come to the party and reduce blade length by that lousy 3 mm if that's the only thing holding you back on the Sebbie - and give you a documentation with the custom specifications to get past those legal hurdles.

Thanks for suggestion! I was actually thinking about the following - get Sebenza and order extra blades for it, not only one that is 85-90mm long, but also one even longer for heavier work. However, do you think it will work as a chopper in this case? I mean to get a blade that is about 8" long (200mm), but at the same time so that knife could not fold while such a long blade is attached. And will it be strong enough? I suspect it should be because all blade play can be removed by disassembling the knife. And I am quite sure I will be able to get it through the customs almost anywhere in my luggage.
