There seem to be 3 new folding woodcarving knives on the market in the last few months:

Little Chipper (D2, slipjoint, specialized chip carving blade, Delrin, wood or ivory scales)

Oar Carver (D2, slipjoint, double 1 3/4" Wharncliffe blades, Delrin? scales)

Notto Folding Woodcarving Knives (O1, 2 different lock back knives, spear or Wharncliffe styles, full exotic wood handles)

All have leather sheaths or slipcases.

I've no real use for a specialized folding chip carving blade (have a fixed blade already), but I can always use a good Wharncliffe folder for whittling, so I ordered the Oar Carver a few days ago and am eagerly awaiting it's arrival. Just wondering if anyone here has any experience with either the Oar Carver or either of the Notto blades yet? I've heard it mentioned on another forum that both the Little Chipper and the Oar Carver are made by Queen, but that's not something that I know for sure. I think the Notto blades are custom made. The Chipper and the Carver are on the web, but can't find anything on the Nottos other than magazine ads.

Sorry 'bout the long post, but I've enjoyed the various whittling posts lately, and thought this might be a good place to ask a few knife use experts and aficianados about these new blades. Thanks in advance for any input you folks can provide.

I have spoken to the owner of Little Chipper and he confirms both his knife and the Oar Carver are made by Queen with D2 steel blades. The blade stamp on Little Chipper reads Queen and the same on Oar.

I have several Rich Notto fixed carving knives with wood handles, they are excellent steel and fine quality tools. The larger wooden handle on the Notto knife will be much more comfortable than the Queen designs.

Regards,
FK
