I traded a knife with another guy and we both mailed this morning. He’s in Mass. and I’m in Western NY. Tracking shows that both of our packages have been accepted and are in the system. My knife is supposed to be delivered to him on Tuesday and his knife should be delivered to me on Wednesday.

Let’s see how these two travel! Mind you they will most likely route through a borough of NYC and I can only imagine what that mail system looks like. Please keep the complaining to a minimum, there’s already a thread for that ;)

Lol! I'm originally from MA. I doubt your new knife is going to Brockton in between. You should be good, brother

It it arrives in the Jersey City depot/warehouse.... Good luck.  Yikes.

The knife I sent has left the building and is on the way, Olean is always great about getting packages out each day. I’m guessing it’ll head to either Buffalo or Rochester for the first stop. (No update on the incoming knife)

Is the other guy a member here? Just curious cuz Mansfield is very close to me.

He has an account although he hasn’t been active on here for some time now. I’ve bought some knives from both him and his son in the past so that’s how this trade deal came about.

A few conjectures based on my experience with USPS:
  1. For long-distance travel where air freight is involved, First Class is overall better (cheaper and mostly a day late than Priority).
  2. If the postage is directly printed from PayPal or USPS website as opposed to a hand-written address, the package travels more efficiently within the USPS network. This simply may be because the destination is pre-entered in the machines and easier to scan the bar-code (my guess). Yes, this requires having a printing facility at home, but so far it has worked well for me.

I have noticed that sometimes First Class packages travel at the same speed as Priority but then sometimes they’re routed differently or get held up for extra days because that extra time is allowed, I’m assuming to make room for packages that need to travel faster.

As far as the printed labels or the hand written ones, I’ve never had one issue writing on the box. I always put clear tape over my writing so it can’t be smudged or tampered with. Also, when I take my box to the post office, they input all the info into the system and put the necessary labels (barcode) on. I do wonder about some people’s writing but the clerks at the PO always ask me to verify that the address is correct on their screen prior to printing the label.

I do think printing the labels at home is probably easier and it saves time, plus it’s actually a cheaper rate, but I don’t ship a lot and it’s easy for me to hit the little PO that’s out of town since it’s on my way to work. Never busy there

It appears that the knife I am receiving has made it 2 days ahead of schedule! Originally estimated for Wednesday, it traveled quite a bit after leaving NH, I usually don’t see packages hit both Buffalo and Rochester, usually it’s one or the other depending on which direction the packages will be going (east or west):

The knife that I had sent out has also left the state and you can see it’s taking a similar route in reverse, but without the extra stops:

Maybe the USPS is tired of the heat they've been taking for the last few months.
Just when I want to start hating on the USPS for a 3 week Priority Mail delivery that went 200 miles, they go and do something like this:

This wasn't even a Priority mail shipment, it was a package that came 1st Class. One of lifes little mysteries...

After my critical meds leaving main Cinncinnati PO (237 miles away) 25 days ago, being misdirected twice to the wrong cities, and hen disappearing from Tracking 14 days ago, my pharmacy is sending them a second time UPS, and FAXing prescript to local pharmacy.

TV last night showed dozens of tractor-trailor rings parked around Cleveland Main PO - full of mail or waiting to pick-up mail. Some drivers interviewed said they have been there four days.

Don't forget Pittsburg. Armpit of Ohio? An nice city with a living downtown, even if it has the Black Shirts fo its NFL team.
