food contest chat

One thread per entry, chatting in the contest thread DQ's all your entries (yes, you can have more than one entry -- but you have to do everything from scratch for each one)

So youre supposed to thread the thread but whithout chatting...mmm interesting
I see two thats already disqualified :D

What about something that is commercially produced, but not intended for the purpose of containing a fire, like an old wheel rim?

that works -- especially if it's a tractor or big truck rim

I am a great fan of repurposing.

Photogeddon 2017 has me set back a bit. I want to enter but I need to find a new hosting site. Argh......

Edited my post with entry.
Thanks for the contest,Good luck all.
If nothing else I got outside for awhile with my Beckers & practiced some skills & tried something new. So Win.

Unfortunately, my county has a burn ban on. No open fires allowed. So unless I could use my smoker/BBQ pit (made by a company since my welding skills are rudimentary), I'm out.

excellent entry!
if you copy that post and use it to start a thread over on the kabar forum called "outdoor cooking" or some such, it'd be a good move towards getting your Krew number.

I got outside but the only picture I remembered to take was of the food right before I ate it.
looks burnt - but that was just the sesame oil -- the food was fine.

there is diced up chicken breast under the taters, onions, and corn.

I dunno -- a homemade solar oven would make an impressive entry.
I would even make an exception for the lack of localized fire.

Camping/backpacking all last week.
Much fire prep with the 16. A little with the 5 and 9.
Some food prep with the 15.
Much cooking over MSR Universal stoves, and some over stone fire pits: Tri-tip, hot dogs. Fresh bread in the outback!
Daughter killed the phone and solar charger on day one - too many episodes of Supergirl or something. So no pics - and no entry. Curse you Netflix!
But a great time for all - less the 24hr food poisoning shared by probably 10 of us over about 5 days. They're sanitizing all the water containers this week...

Hmmmmmmmmmm, urban wood collecting, I might know that tune pretty well. Hardwood pallets come close to food grade, but they get real dirty, not the best flavor. Cherished are the fruit tree trimmings when I stumble upon them, but they need to cure for a good season or so. Some in the family think it's ok to cook on anything that grew as a tree, even green or softwoods. I don't waste my breath telling them. Chinese Elm grows all around here, it is a very, hard wood, and I have some, but it seems tasteless for flavoring. My Oak supply is guarded by armed sentry (me). :D And my home built wood/gas smoker was certainly not commercial, It consists of two re-purposed Lp tanks, a compressed air portable tank, and rolls on a very well used grey shop cart, probably from horrible fright. I could try an open fire I suppose, I have an old wheel for a fire pit project that needs to be completed. Very short on time however, lots of side jobs last week have me behind the eight ball, fishing this weekend too. I may try something if time permits. Luck Mates!!!
