foolish to wear a bk2 in a spec ops sheath as a edc?

...only if you want to keep your pants on.
And not because all the ladiez are gonna find you sexier than usual.
You'll need a serious belt, substantial tuchas (works with the belt) or suspenders to keep yer trousers off the floor!

But more seriously, yeah. You'll PROBABLY look like a mall ninja. But that TOTALLY depends on where you live and go on a daily basis. If you're stuck at home like so many of us, I wouldn't worry much about how it makes you look. Or the pants. :p

Tactical = Tactics...… My belief in tactics is "they" wouldn't know you have it... ;P

Maybe try a sheath system I use.... It's kind of ghetto, or "High Speed/Low Drag" lol
depending on how you look at it. I've been carrying my BK62, and many others this way for years, with no problem.....

Not sure what to call it? Maybe look up Frogs? or western bowie sheaths? IDK?
but my sheath is held up by my waistband and or belt. It's free to move around and shift with my subtle body movements. I can carry it appendix style or even at the 4-8 positions quite comfortably.
I can easily carry a 6-12" blade with Nobody noticing, and driving is easy.

*there are pics here with my sheath I made for my BK62, but I'm not sure how to search them out, the sheath is green and the "frog?" is brass

haha, ive got a ares enhanced aegis belt. makes carrying a all steel 5" 1911 feel weightless

The first question is whether you can legally carry it concealed. If so and you don't want to alarm people then I'd try that.
But if you can't or don't want to carry concealed then it would be a bit less scary looking to use a leather sheath and replace the black scales with wood ones.

Whatever i carry, i try to be discreet with it. Unless im out camping, then i dont really care, not to mention, it may be going in and out of the sheath constantly then.

Even neck knives i wear under a shirt. That could work for your bk2... Hey, itll give you monster neck muscle. Only thing is when you lean forward people may think your heart just tried to fly out of your chest.

Seriously though, i think with a leather sheath itll look the best. But not a dangler. Otherwise, scout carry with a shirt untucked would be fine too.

Patriot Leather Co. makes some really nice sheaths but they’re going to be a little above $75.

Why do you want to carry a BK2 open carry as an EDC?

For defense or is it a tool you would legitimately use at work or something?

The way I'm imagining, it is Mall Ninja esque, but I'm wrong a lot. Just ask my wife, she'll tell you all about it.

On a more serious note (referencing my first post, not those made by others), I don't consider the BK2 a practical EDC knife. If you love it & want to carry it, though, I'd probably suggest a good kydex sheath set up for inverted carry.
I do think that leather is the least "tactical" looking, though.

I have a buck vanguard that I could carry but I'm not that fond of it anymore. No particular reason though. I want a fixed blade and a better folder than what I have and the only fixed blade I have is the bk2 so I would like to use it although I agree with everyone it's a bruiser of a knife. I live in Kansas so we have pretty loose regs on knife carrying. Make sense?

Hmmm for some reason my reply didn't stick. Essentially what I said was I have a buck vanguard I could carry but I'm not so fond of it anymore. I live in Kansas so the regulations on knife carrying are pretty relaxed. I want a fixed blade and a folder for a EDC setup and the bk2 is the only other fixed blade I have

So here's my input, from a guy who doesn't know you or your situation. It's worth exactly what your paying for it, probably.
Now, I goof around on this forum and try to entertain myself, because life is so damn boring. I'm not goofing around here in this thread.

So you started off by asking if it's foolish to carry a BK2 in a spec ops sheath, and I'll say probably foolish and potentially dangerous.
I'll try to explain myself, I'm not the best wordsmith.
Many folks carry a folding knife and it doesn't generate any real attention, it's really normal and acceptable socially.
Now a large fixed bladed knife, that's a horse of a different color, it's weird to see them carried in this area except by homeless people.

My point is it attracts attention, the same is true of open carry handguns. It can make folks nervous and people do strange things when nervous.
Now dangerous, someone above posted about tactics and I read that as Tactical advantage, which you don't have with open carry.
If was a criminal I would 100% target the open carry guy first, Knife/Gun whichever.

So it's legal and that's a good thing, but just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Beside's in parts of the world where knife fights are common and guns are outlawed those folks unzip each other with very small knives.

The above wasn't meant to be preachy, Just to give you a few things to chew on, so to speak.
Obviously, if you live in an area where many folks EDC a large fixed blade, that changes some things.

I guess that's all for now.

I think we've really all missed the opportunity to suggest a more appropriate fixed-blade EDC for our new friend!

Depends where you live. I edc small knives (up to 4” blades) in belt sheaths around here and nobody gives it a second thought.

If you edc a BK2 you will need a good belt and a better chiropractor. ;)

I would try to save up some cash and get a BK16 or BK62 myself.

It would help to know what you're doing during the day and what part of the state you live in.

I live in Kansas and find that a BK14 with LMF (Joe Snarski) scales on it does just about anything I need it to on a generic day to day basis.
TKC "extended Izula" scales would be even better.
another option I've been trying out lately that works pretty nicely, but might be even better with a coating of tool dip (or similar product) would be the Kabar Wrench knife.
If you really need more than a 3" blade, a BK16 in a leather sheath would be a lot easier to carry and less in the way than the BK2.

what folder are you carrying?
