for all you forge guys..

Well that is a sweet forge. I'm not in a panic to get it done I'm just glad the project is finally started. Looking at the above forge i hope I didn't put my burner pipes too far apart. I did as I said with 7" in between each one angled so the heat will swirl around the 8" diameter chamber. I have a bolt through each tube to hold the burners in place when I decide which type I will be using. I was planning on using the z burners but now I think I'll look around first at some different options. The pipes that are welded in place are 1 1/2" so what ever they are needs to fit in there. Unfortunately I know nothing about building burners so I'm looking at buying them instead. That burner set up above looks pretty sweet but how does a guy get hooked up with that ..or instructions on how to build them?

Mike,
I'm not picking on you, but your comment here has me concerned.
Would you be confident with a mechanic that said, "I have the car on the lift and am all ready to take the transmission out. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about transmissions, or rebuilding them.

Before you do much more you should do the research and planning stages:
Read up on burners.
Look at some of the many forge building tutorials online (you have done a search already?)

First stop is Darren Ellis' site:
http://forgegallery.elliscustomknifeworks.com/
Go to the refractory page and read all the FAQs.
Look at the burner kits and pre-made burners.
Look at the forge gallery.

Then, take a look at Kevin Cashen's site ,there is a great forge and burner page.
http://www.cashenblades.com/Info/Gas forges.html

If you don't have it bookmarked, here is the search engine for Bladeforums (the thread search on the forums is severely lacking):
http://www.google.com/coop/cse?cx=011197018607028182644:qfobr3dlcra
Use it to search things like the two-stage burner control, forge building, burners, etc.

Building a blown burner is far simpler than a venturi burner. You can buy one, if you want, but it is basically a piece of pipe with a gas line hooked to it.Air is blown into one end from a blower motor, and gas is put in at the gas valve. There is a bit more , but that is the gist of it.

thanks Stacy. The blown burner does look like the way to go. I will look into it further as there will be 4 burners and I will need to know how to set that up properly.

Darren Ellis was where I bought my forge stuff from(insulation ect), the regulator, and fittings for the burner I found locally(with much aggrivation). I do have a few canadian links for the insulation though, since shipping that stuff out of the usa costs big time!
