My wife lost one of her favorite gardening tools recently. It wasn't anything I really ever even knew about or paid attention to to be perfectly honest. When she approached me to ask me if I'd seen it I barely recalled even what it looked like. It was a simple tool really. A 'BONSAI Root Rake' in stainless that she apparently just loved.
Anyway, I felt bad for her so I looked some up on the net and found a few pics and made her one out of titanium and then anodized it in several colors just being stupid really. It was just a love gift to try to make her feel better since she was so upset that she lost the one she had. Apparently it was a one of a kind or something that she had not seen again since finding it.
I can't say I put a lot of work or thought into it and was really just trying to bring a smile to her face when I did it but she has been bugging the crap out of me since giving it to her to post it and let other gardners know about it and offer to make more. So in an effort to gain some peace I can now say I've done so.
I've seen some cheapy ones for $6.95 and some better made ones for $50 but none of them are titanium that I can find. Virtually all of them are stainless China or stainless Japan made.
It takes about $8.50 worth of titanium to make one this size and thickness. I can anodize it a color and even put initials on it if need be or bead blast it. I get $30 for a pocket clip (fold over low rider style) and these are a little more work and a lot more titanium than that not to mention a lot thicker so I'm going to say $35 each for one in .070 thickness and see what happens. If you want it thicker it will add cost but it can sure be done. I have enough scrap ti to probably make four more if they spark any interest.
Anyway, if anyone has a gardner in the family and wants a unique gift for them give me a shout and we'll work one out for your friend or loved one or even yourself if that is the case. I take paypal so get in touch if you like it.
Now maybe I can focus on knives again since I can tell the wife I made the post she has been buggin' me about.
Thanks
