For Kamagong: Single Blade Customs @ 3 3/4" and under...Food For Thought

Christian, stop it now! Last thing I need is another obsession. Fortunately, while I could always appreciate and enjoy finely tuned firearms and I've had the opportunity to fire several, I've never been severely bitten by the bug, even when they were so much a part of my daily life. I have simple tastes these days...Remington 870's, Glocks, wheel guns and 1911's. (Unfortunately, I no longer have either wheel guns or 1911's but who knows what the future holds?)

That Dowell looks like a really well put together knife, I really like that.

You have a good eye, my friend. But you knew that.

Heym is real good work and at least mine is custom fit, beautiful valnut durble blued steel and the subtle feeling of quality like an old greenbox puma knife. There are other great ones like krico, manlicher, Schultz and Larsen and the american kimber i seen vere teriffic. I so wish i had a custom singel blade slipjoint to show here. Mmmmmm a knutbuster.

Every time I start to contemplate a custom life and its costs comes knocking. Bills, moving, tuition, all constantly pushing back my plans/ability to get a custom. Even the occasional knife purchase, that's money I could put aside for a custom, but I don't buy knives that often anyways. One day though I'll have one. And when I do I will hopefully be able to confer with a maker on the details of one, one truly custom built and not just a custom chosen from a lineup on a website. That's my goal. Maybe this summer I'll be able to, if saving for next year's tuition and books goes according to plan. If not, graduation present for myself. A lovely custom to take with me as I enter the trades. Yes, maybe! This thread is certainly great for ideas to mull over.

It's always a pleasure to see a piece of your collection, Elliot, and a greater pleasure to see you posting.

And it has been...Thanks, my friend.

If you don't have one of Bret's knives you really owe it to yourself to get one.

Thanks for the tip on that one. I looked at some of his stuff and I think you're right. So I emailed him and got on his list. Sure is quick to fall off the wagon...I hadn't purchased an expensive knife in well over 6 years before my Reese Bose backpocket showed up. Now I have that in my pocket, another one from Reese on order and now a Dowell on order. Ah well...it's a fun fall to make.

You won't be disappointed, Bret's work is very clean. Now, if I could only get him to make that stockman we've discussed over the past few years...;)
(But that's fodder for another thread.)

Elliott,
thank you for your pictures. Your knives had a great role in pushing me towards the "custom slipjoint route", and I'm grateful you did help me in the process.
And considering the pictures you posted here, I wouldn't be surprised if someone else decided to take the same path :p
They're all wonderful knives, but this Erickson is the one that really catches my eye. It's just too classy.

Fausto, it's always my pleasure to help a fellow traveler. Let me know if there's anything else I can do.:thumbup:

Very nice! I love Dowell's work. I really want a shadow zulu in carbon fiber but that green micarta is sweet. One of these days.

That Pena is awesome too!
