I have a couple of questions.

1. What does "Coated Satin finish blade" mean? Does it have some kind of clear-coat over the satin-finished blade?

2. Do you know if it came from Benchmade with the gray handle and satin pocket clip or if this is an aftermarket customization?

3. Are you sure the handle is anodized? The pressed-in pivot on the clip-side of the handle is colored the same as the handle, but the pivot is steel and the handle is aluminum, which makes me think this is some kind of coating, instead of anodizing.

Brian,
To answer your questions, I have a buddy that worked for Benchmade here in Oregon, for a dozen years, in the 90's. Over the last 6 months, he has consolidated his collection, and I have been more than happy to add to mine. All the custom work was done at the Benchmade Factory, or Benchmade employees. With every knife, comes a story and I'll explain the best I can.

#1 The blade is marked 9050 154cm, it is a plain edge/satin finish coating, which he had put on this knife prior to the 9050 being available. I guess you would say its a clear coat, but I'm not for sure.

#2 and #3 The knife is an original 9000 AFO, which came with the grey handle Aircraft grade 6061 T-6 Aluminum Hardcoat anodized 0.60″ Thick. He had the stainless steel clip, not satin, made custom by a buddy at Benchmade. That's what I know.

since i can't pm shadowmed and brian_r17 I will do this, never, meet, know or seen xpress, but I have purchased his knives many times, at least 50 knives, he always throws something extra in your boxes.I have personally via phone, spoken with his contacts via benchmade and will say that what he sells, once in your h:thumbup:and will amaze you.
my first email years ago was like, sure, B.S., but he's real. Wait till he pulls out the 1 of 1, the signed, the hats, the mixed blades and crazy scales all out of factory either as prototypes or i guess just R&D knives ?
