For Sale Forum Issues

Brian CAFFREY,

D*a*m*n it was on the tip of my tounge!
I am kind of an idiot savant for facts(my wife always says that they are USELESS facts) so it pissed me off that I couldn't remember your last name. I thought you would see the post, but I just didn't think it would be that quick. Thanks to you and Para for providing the link. Now let be annoying and do something that I've been doing too much of around here lately. I want to nominate Brian for moderator of the for sale forum. I know there has been talk of it before and Mike and Spark didn't want to have to go that far, but this place is getting HUGE and I think it would be nice to have someone keep an eye on that place.

Jim, thanks for your vote of confidence. I'm sorry to disappoint you but, to quote General Sherman, "If nominated, I will not run; if elected, I will not serve." I wouldn't be able to dedicate the time necessary to moderate a forum, particularly one as busy as FS. Also, frankly, I don't see the need for a moderator there.

IMO, there are some material issues that arise from time to time but the majority of complaints that are being voiced -- and I agree with most of them -- pertain to mere annoyances. Overall, I feel that the BF community does a very good job of being self-policing.

I don't think I'm being naive when I say that most folks on BF want to do the right thing. In some cases, though, individuals may not be aware of the conduct that is expected. This is where I feel that some standard guidelines could be very useful.

As I mentioned yesterday, the draft document that I prepared focused on the transactional aspects of buying & selling. It doesn't address the related issues of posting etiquette, adequate packaging, etc. Although I won't agree to be a moderator, what I will do this weekend is to try to expand the discussion draft to cover these areas.
