Can you explain how the Paul lock works?

Sure, you pinch the lock, which depresses the plunger on the back side. Then while holding the whole mechanism you swing the handle.
Its exactly backwards to what a blade open knife works like.

Blade open = blade swings out of handle.

Handle open = Handle swings off of blade.

Search Youtube for "Paul Prankster" or "Gerber Paul" or "lone wolf Paul" and you'll see folks using the lock
