Up for sale is a very rare style blade - a kissaki moroha zukuri style tanto by Sadanobu (Josiah Boomershine), commonly known as kogarasu zukuri style. (Note: This blade is also posted for sale on Josiah's site for me as well).
This tanto is difficult to let go of as I personally like the kissaki moroha zukuri style sugata very much and this particulary piece is quite special to me. In addition, it is a very challenging sugata to forge so not many smiths make these style blades and if they do, they choose to make them very, very infrequently (I know because I have asked around).
The rarity of this piece is added to by the fact that it has a grass kanji script poem inscribed into the nakago. A further touch to the package is the solid silver habaki accomplished in a mottled/textured style. The package is elegantly finished off with a custom high end shirasaya by Kuro (Randy Black) with black horn mekugi with a white ivory horn inlay around the mekugi peg.
Specifications:
Modern mono-steel: 1075

- Professionally polished by Josiah Boomershine (Sadanobu).
- Josiah is able to bring out a nishiji-style hada within the 1075 monosteel making for a quite impressive modern blade.
- The solid silver habaki, designed to look like a mottled amphibian-style texture in matte finish, was masterfully crafted by Josiah as well per my specifications.
- The blade boasts of a rarely seen style called kissaki moroha zukuri, which consists of ultra light weight naginata grooves and double cutting edge.
- The blade is completed with a famous poem by the great "Basho" carved on the nakago. The three line haiku, written in grass script, translates as: An ancient pond, a frog jumps in, the sound of a splash.
- Josiah noted that he chose this poem because the blade was forged this Spring (2012) and his pond is teeming with frogs that sing all night. Therefore, he thought the poem was a fitting addition for this fine blade.
