First HAPPY NEW YEAR !!! Hope it's on the up side for you. I haven't been in the Forum much in the last 4/5 months...DANG! :grumpy: . Anyway can you give me a timeline on when the fixed blades migraded, morphed, changed (probably wasn't over night) from the high carbon steel ...to the stainless>>>> and when the "SUPER SHARP" designation appeared ......Assuming a knife is being sold with the original box what order do they line up ...wood grain uh, blue striped ot ,black and white uh, blue&tan ot. I'm sure there are other earlier ones.....Can you help me set the ballast on this ship???

You would be right that it wasn't overnight. Some UH patterns were made from carbon steel for many years, then switched to stainless (search: 153UH for info). Most Old Timer patterns were traditionally carbon but were switched to stainless (search: 152 update). A very few fixed blade Old Timers were stainless throughout their production (search 41OT).

and when the "SUPER SHARP" designation appeared
This was an "on again - off again" affair. It has not yet been established when this etch first was used.

Assuming a knife is being sold with the original box what order do they line up

Blue decorative on some patterns like the Benchmades etc, but woodgrain hinged early on, then woodgrain slip top, then woodgrain fold down, then tan and black/gray and black, bluestripe, then diamondplate. (Search packaging)

Several patterns had their own unique box designs, particularly in the mid eighties to the 2004 time period. Boxes for some exports were different too.

I hope this helped somewhat. Most of this info is posted here somewhere, and you can find it with some determined searching. Steel is in the sticky up top.

Here's a picture with some of the box patterns. I don't have any wooden or hinged boxes. From bottom up, older first, as Michael describes them:
1) Woodgrain/Brown Box slip top
2) Woodgrain fold down (in white rather than woodgrain)
Both of these had white cardboard sleeves, but usually missing
3) Tan/Black
4) Tan Black (with A Sharp Idea in upper right corner, has new plant address)
5) Blue/Light Blue (same an tan/black, but for Uncle Henry)
6) Bluestripe
7) Blue-gray-white (same as diamondplate) printed in China

When I first starting to find some Schrades, it took me a while to figure out the chronology. I still don't know the actual years, but I still find even the tan/blacks in stock sometimes. I'm still looking forward to stumbling upon a Brown Box stash some day.

I know TimsTools needs to tutor me a little more on pics. I used the dining room chair with a flash rather than indirect light outside. It's 12 degrees and sleeting outside today (my excuse)!

....To The Codger....You really do spoil us mate..that is a fantastic effort...how lucky are we to have you....you will let me know when your Ball Bag arrives wont you??? Hoo Roo

One thing I am curious about...

Will the bag hang low? Will it wobble to and fro? Can I sling it over my shoulder like a Continental soldier? Will the bag hang low? Or should it be worn as a sporran? Will I have to trade my Schrade for a Sgian Dubh? Will my Irish ancestors hant me til I lee doon an dee?

Codger

PS- Yas, I will announce when my bag hops in. And my postmaster's reaction as well.

.....I got you a special XXL size as I have heard about your reputation mate.!..the blurb says only 1 in 1000 has XXL size.........we know just how it feels to be Unuck...I mean Unique.....dont we??? Hoo Roo
