For the knife bottomfeeders among us ...

Hi everyone ... I'm John, and I'm here to confess I'm an eBay addict and knife bottomfeeder.

I have amassed a darn respectable Case knife collection of minty examples without ever paying full retail for a knife, ever. I'm addicted to scouring eBay ad nauseum, hunting for epic deals. I've been fortunate to get quite a few deals so good, I'm embarrassed to mention them, which fuels the addiction.

Which brings me to a point of frustration and reason for this thread. There are only a few knives that have been on my short list for years, but every time, without exception, they always bring more than I'm willing to spend (which is reasonable, mind you), which frustrates the heck out of me. I keep thinking that just once I'll get lucky, but never happens - just too many guys hunting them apparently. For me a few of the knives (good condition with full blades) that always, every time, go for simply more than I'm willing to spend ...

- Case medium frame BONE (not delrin) sided jack knives: 6235 1/2; 6202 1/2, 62024 1/2, etc
- Case Corelon sided (acrylic), especially the ones with exceptional color (all Corelon is not created equal)
- Case swayback jack (wharncliffe single blade version)
- Case Loomfixer (bone sides)

Any fellow bottomfeeders have a short list of knives that frustrate them because they 100% always go for more than they are willing to spend ??

I've gotten pretty much what I want. There are a few good deals now for models I want but I'm out of cash. Figures.

The trouble with an Ebay addiction is it sucks up so much valuable time. And the savings are easily cancelled out with the occasional bad buy or purchasing error.

These coronavirus restrictions are a great reason for pausing and appreciating the ones you already have, imo.

I admire your restraint L Lansky1 - most eventually just spend the $$s. You are having more fun though - in spite of the ongoing frustration. Think of the day in the future when one of those grails come in hand for your price - what a day that will be. :)

How is CASE "bottom feeder"/scraping the bottom of the barrel? :)
FROST and Gerber (especially the Grylls series) knife shaped objects are "scraping the bottom of the barrel" ... or "digging under the barrel" ...

Good luck getting the ones you're searching for at the price you want. :)

I remember there was a guy on eBay who did customized Mitchell 300 and 302 spinning reels. I wanted one bad.
I finally put in a $75 higher than my normal bid, on a 300 with fancy custom paint and custom machined PUM/manual pickup.
I lost the bid 1 minutes before the auction ended. Just as well, I suppose. Turns out he passed on unexpectedly a couple days before his auctions for that week ended. :(
No one got the reels they'd bid on. I think a couple were repeat buyers and paid as soon as they won. They did not get a refund or the reel.
I don't know if his kids were able to access his eBay account to complete the sales. I rather doubt they did.

Shipping to Canada costs more...
You're fortunate to be getting the deals you sometimes get.

Quick!!! Someone post a picture of a knife, so we're not only talking about the buying process!! ;)

No picture posting for me right now. I'm out in the country, with spotty cell coverage.

Case mini cokebottle.
Buck 309 clipper
And a German " original Bowie "

I've gotten some deals, but I'm only looking users at a users price when some I suppose will always just be for the collector.

I Don't have a list of knives I'm looking for. I do however try to keep my eBay knife purchases to under $20 including the shipping. Here are a couple that arrived last week.

$15 Buck 703

If he paid with Paypal chances are they got the money back!
