For the knife bottomfeeders among us ...

What are these restrictions you speak of?
First one that comes to my mind is the fact that both Case and GEC are based here in PA where governor Wolf has banned businesses from operating if he deemed them "non essential". So production is pretty much at an indefinite halt for the unforeseeable future.

That looks like the 6235 1/2 pattern... I don't believe Case is making that pattern anymore.
This is my appaloosa version...

Thanks for the information. I just now found that number on the tang of the small blade, where it belongs. It is a very practical design. It gives a good grip on the knife when it is being used.
My appaloosa doesn't have a Case shield on either side.

That's what I thought he meant when he said there were restrictions.
However, with stocked shelves and a strong secondary market, it wouldn't hinder me buying either brand at the moment.

There is a certain irony in knives being deemed non-essential, given every bush-crafting survivalist youtuber who has ever posted their ‘top five’ items has included a knife. I doubt they included a bottle of hand sanitiser in their lists. Now they will.

I think Facebook and instagram are driving some of the market based on certain Facebook groups and #instagram pages. I think if James Parker was hosting a Facebook group, Case Classics would still be as desirable as GEC and Northwoods.

I like to stroll the auction site on a regular basis and even have alerts set up for certain Schrade USA and case patterns I'm after. Its amazing the completely new unused specimens you can pick up for cheap if you are patient.

With GEC I'm happy to pay MSRP. Thankfully the patterns I like don't command 300-400 percent markup..... yet.

I'm an admitted collector (and have collected various things as long as I can remember). I enjoy the hunt way more than the actual ownership.

I thought they were re-opened?
Knives on Case's website a couple days ago were all "Out of Stock". Now they are all in stock.
Zippo (owns Case) was closed, but are also up and running again.

They might've appealed then. I don't know but this whole thing is ridiculous.

Another reason I like Bottom Feeding Knives is I tend to not sell them because they don't collect value.
If I get strapped for cash, it's easy to sell off a couple of desirable GEC knives, it's always easy to get your money back out of them.
But it would take a couple of handfuls of Case knives to bring that same amount of money, and it would hurt to part with that many knives.
Besides, like I said, Case knives cut better. ;)

I was definitely a bargain hunter in my day. Picked up some great inexpensive Case knives off the big auction site, or from other members on the Case Collector's Club forums through their for-sale subforum. I even got some good deals on the Exchange here for some GEC knives, back in the days before those were all in such high demand.

A lot of those good deals were kind of at the tail of the last recession, in around 2012 or so. I am betting that there will be some great deals coming up in the next months or years, though whether you are the seller or the buyer at those low prices is a point of some concern.

Nothing has officially changed in Pennsylvania. GEC’s chief engineer is still posting that they are exiled from work by decree of their governor.
