I picked up a basic Companion this summer and have been banging on it and getting used to it. I love my Companion HD but actually prefer the Companion as a better all-around knife. The HD is nicer when doing dedicated hard wood carving. The grip feels awkward a bit at first, as the center swell is very exaggerated. But it doesn't take long to disappear and feel natural and after a long session of carving, I find the HD's larger grip tires my hand less.
This said, the basic Companion is no slouch and feels good in the hand long after other knives get set aside during a carving session (I often carve with several knives handy, rotating through them to get a feel for their differences. In most cases, the Companion is more than enough. One thing that doesn't jump out as obvious at first is just how good the Companion handle is in many different grips. I really notice this with other knives at hand. There really isn't a grip that the Companion doesn't feel comfortable in (that I've found or that I use often), and I just can't say that about any other knife I use.
Where it really shines compared to the HD is in the kitchen. The thinner stock makes it a much better slicer and thus the Companion earns its name. I find it to be the single most versatile knife I own.
Here are a couple of mine that I modded, took the handles off, cleaned up the insides, and epoxied the handles back on (after sanding and staining). They cleaned up nicely.
Sadly, I've never used the one Mora I have. I have it strapped to my sling bag for a just in case blade, as I use others. I need to take it out and give it a proper workout:
