For the love of the BATAC.

CG reg slabs, LE, CG mags

This is a great photo for explaining my first reaction.....looking at these the CG with standard or magnum handles might be much more usable for me.

I suspect the standard handles might suit my use/weight expectations best but I could always sand down linen mags if need be...

This is my one I pack. stripped the blade, but left the dimple section up on the saber grind.. Its a great little all multipurpose knife.. BUT I REALLY LIKE THE BATACLE, but can't seem to take one out and get it dirty...

Love that look!
What brand sheath is that, by the way?

You can kinda see my BATAC-LE in this photo from a recent jungle survival course in Iquitos. I found it great for batoning, but generally a bit too thick and heavy for what I needed it for on this trip. Kydex is really better suited to the jungle environment, leather is not the best when wet for extended periods, it tends to stretch (as you can see from how it's hanging on my belt)...

Here again on a recent day-hike in Newfoundland:

Love mine, Blue/Black handle with a stripped blade. It still had the black blade in this shot. With some Scrapyard knives.

You are in a unique position of actually using your knife, can you please tell some more info on the BATAC and what use did you gave it. Do you mean for bushcraft (shelter making, tool making, food prep etc...) is too thick or too wide or too heavy?

Thanks in advance

I love the CG. Best knife hands down. I feel that it is the be all, do all in one knife. That is next to the BAIII.

I have been looking for a day hike knife that would fit in the side pocket of my Maxpedition Jumbo for a several months now. Sounds like the BATAC CG maybe just what the doctor ordered. I have tried both Rat Cutlery RC-3 and RC-4 and found the handles to bit small for me (Great knives otherwise). All my 6 inch Busse’s were just to large for this pocket. As you can see from my photo, I have been using my Swamp Rat HC LE, but I think the BATAC CG would be a better fit and give me a little bit more blade should I need it. Much appreciated. Now all I have to do is find one on the exchange.

Don't get me wrong, I love the BATAC-LE. I think I would have liked it better on this particular jungle outing it it was:

- a bit skinnier like the CG model
- I had the foresight to get some kydex for it
- there was more cutting surface (smaller choil)

It being a bit skinnier would just be my personal preference, there is not really a practical reason for me saying this, I should preface this buy stating that the handles would need to stay the same overall thickness. I had a CG model and sold it as I found the standard grips just too narrow for my hand. The LE model is a bit thicker in the handle and fits my hand much better.

Kydex is definitely the way to go if you plan to be in the jungle or anywhere wet, leather stretches when wet for extended periods of time.

I found it a bit awkward for shaving tinder, the machete seemed better suited to this job, but for batoning and light chopping it's great. When drawing upward (or downward) with one hand on the handle and one on the back of the blade, the ideal knife for shaving tinder will have the cutting surface pretty much in the middle. The overall length of the BATAC LE is 11", of that only 4.25" is cutting surface (39%, due to it's long handle and choil), that puts the centre of the knife at the front guard hole, so it's not ideal for this one particular chore, but it certainly is great at just about everything else.

The BATAC is a great mid size blade IMO. Many don't like the TAC handles, but they give you differant grip options that can be very usefull. I prefer the straight handle of the BAlll, but the TAC does allow you to have a very secure grip while doing light chopping.

I sold these two not long ago, planning to get a CG with mags. Havn't yet but probobally will one day. The standard slabs were a bit thin for me.

The LE's are a beautifull knife!, but a little heavy for for a med size blade(for me anyway)
I need to get a better pic of these two.

BATAC is a great blade. Mine went to someone who will use her more than I had been. It it a little bit of that "in between size". Opted to keep SJTAC.

The BATAC is beautiful in its' own bull-nosed way.

A year ago I had a BATAC 2007 SE that was stolen so I bought a replacement. Then the original was recovered. Both were sold shortly afterwards but now I've got an LE inbound. It's due here probably Tuesday and I can't wait.
It was my first Busse and now I will be glad to have one back, particularly the LE!!

How did you find the one that was stolen?.

The BATAC is alright in my book, especially paired with a bigger blade.

I've been really interested in this blade for moons.

This thread has been a real help. The CG with regular handles would be sweet for me I think...or would be a in-betweener and get neglected! :( ???
