Maybe this is old news, but I found this while cruising the Interbahn...

Nice to see the thicker tang on the Mora 2K. I went ahead and ordered a Mora 2K and Carbon Steel Clipper today, can't wait...

Great. It's like everybody knows I am broke. Sure, put up pics of one MORE knife I have to have. :D :D :D

That's neat, I've not seen it before. I knew I liked my 510 more for a reason! The tang on the craftsman is surprisingly short.

I have the 711 and 510, looks like I'll never have to worry about torquing the handle off these guys...nice to know:)

Full tangs are overrated as far as Moras are concerned. It's not as if they have a reputation for failing in the field.

Very interesting. . . kinda changes my plans to buy one or two of the Frosts in the near future. . . Maybe I'll just save up a few more bucks and go with the 2k.

I agree with you Shecky. I wouldn't worry about the shorter tangs on the Frosts if I already owned one, but since I'm looking to buy a new knife I might as well go with the stronger design. I may still pick up a couple of the Frosts eventually, you can't beat the price.

who labeled the knives in that image? i believe that's the tradesman, not the craftsman. i have the same image on my hard drive but it's not labeled. someone just added that. still, probably the same tang.

Every book I have read on knives for survival speak of the tang going all the way through the handle. None of these blades have this feature. Wouldn't this be a worry?

I suppose one could make an expedient wooden handle in the bush - but why not simply pay a little more money and get more tang?

(That last question sounded a little randy... ;) )

If someone breaks a tang/handle on even a Mora Clipper then it is pure and simple abuse. period. (With the exclusion of a singular quality control issue on a specific knife).
If they do break it, they have done something far and beyond the capabilities and "reasonable" expectations for the knife.

Common sense runs thick and gooey through some folk, but within others it is almost undetectable. Common sense should tell us, simply, to look at the knife in question, and assess its useability and range of utility.

How many folks use Moras? rhetorical, lots and lots.
How many tip failures do we hear about?
How many handle failures do we hear about?

There were some photos posted where a Clipper had been abused to failure, then the handle "cut" open to expose the tang.
Surely interesting enough to see the internal structure of the knife, but, as far as proof of certain failure, or some inherant weakness, It didn't phase me one bit.

I do not expect the clipper to pry a 100 lb. rock, nor baton through a 2 foot diameter oak tree.

Great pic. I do believe they're all labeled correctly.

I have read of a few people that purposely broke the handles on modern Mora knives just to see what was inside. In each case, breaking the handle was not easy to do. I think one guy actually beat on his with a hammer -hard- before it broke.

Despite the lack of a full tang, I believe the modern Mora knives are pretty tough, and could handle a fair amount of abuse that is outside their intended scope of practice. Unless I'm in a life or death situation, I will treat my Moras as cutting tools, and reserve the prying and chisling for more appropriate tools (BK3).
