For the physics guys – what are the structural benefits of a saber grind?

I remember this question from a while back, can't remember where, but one of the forums. A particularly good description of why the cross sectional thickness is the last word in the strength of the knife brought all kinds of remonstrance from fans of both sabre ground and hollow ground blades, nonetheless, the intelligent responder in question claimed to be a mechanical engineer, and he wrote with apparent authority. The practical upshot being, the more material, the stronger the knife.

Not a physics question, but a knife question. All that like knives should know all the grinds.
