For those of you who didn't like the pack knife scales.

I don't hide the fact that I'm not an orange fan. With the pack knife I let the masses decide and they picked orange. I bit my tounge and went with it.

I picked up a RC-3mil and swapped the scales for one of my pack knives and I like that but that left me with one with those horrid orange scales.

It sat in the bag for awhile, looking at me when I would open the drawer it was in, but there it sat.

Well, I couldn't take it anymore, something had to be done. I already had the MIL handles on one and I'm not huge on the linen micarta so drastic steps were to be taken.

Heres the results:

Cant figure out the macro on this newfangled camera.

Now I was trying to dye the scales black but it just wouldn't take. But I kinda like the dark orange, brown color. Not disappointed at all.

I just realized that I didn't get a pic of the other side, it looks about the same I promise.

So there you go, a customized knife even more customized.;)

Next up, a sheath.

ETA: Man, now I regret hiring Drew to take those macro shots for me......Hmmm.

Wow that looks pretty cool! What color of a sheath you think your going to go with?

what are you using to mill the slabs, is it a dremiltool with grinding wheel?

I forgot to ask, how did you do it? Black does seem to go well!!

Dremel with a sanding drum and my 1x30" did the work.

Also thinking about something like this for the sheath:

Brown on one side, orange on the other. But I'll do a similar treatment to the orange kydex to darken it up if I can figure out a way to.

I would have traded a pair of black mircata RC3 or 4 for your orange scales. The RC3 and -4 have the same size scales, correct?

Send Kiah a PM. He was working on some crazy dye jobs last I heard.

Nice mod.

Well, he's a little bit more talented than I am.

Knowing him he's using some incredibly complicated emulsion process on each sheet of kydex that takes 3 months of constant labor to complete.

I hate guys who don't have ADD.....:D

Could be. :D

I actually think it was some kind of dye that would penetrate the kydex. He mentioned it was a pain to work with because it ate through and bleed under templates he was using. It worked pretty well for simple color changes though. ;)

That's it....I am buying a camera that does everything for me....then i am going to photog school....oh no i wont...I think i will just keep taken crappy pics and playing with knives

WOW!!! Looks great man  I definitely prefer the micarta scales over the orange G-10 on the pack knives (although I voted for the orange), but the orange does look really cool IMO.
