I've been getting alot of requests for mod jobs on the TOPS Tracker, mainly reprofing the edge. This one is the Red Scorpion Predator. The customer wanted the handles changed to red linen micarta. I got covered in pink dust but it's finished. Thought i'd share a pic.

Bill, here's a pic of a TOPS I did awhile back. This one was well used.

Your craftsmanship and talent is exemplary in everything I've seen you post.

I've never used a knife of that design, do you have any comments on it?

Neither have I. It's just not my cup of tea. I prefer a large fixed blade with a standard straight edge. The people who have these knives like them and use them often. It looks awkward to me but that's just me.

Fair enough... to each his own, as they say. I agree it looks clumsy... my tastes are pretty traditional.

From what I have read--MOST people who get this type of knife find it does many things---just none of them well.

:(

Kinda like "it looks good on paper" --but when you use it--well you get the idea.

I've held the TRACKER--balance is all wrong for a chopping tool---you can do it--but not as effectively as it looks.

Think of a HUMMER with a 4 cylinder engine---

HAS anyone really tested this(Like Cliff??)

Id love to see what Cliff has to say about the Tracker. Simply because I'm not a big fan of the knife. Don't get me wrong I had one for a long time and used it but it's just not the tool that Tom wanted it to be. I'm sure if you do a search he already has something posted.

I would love to see it(the test)-as I trust Cliff.

Problem with spending that much $ on a knife is you do not want to admit it does not work..

I have a Dan Koster variant, but without all the bells and whistles. Its basically khukish. The bells and whistles kinda turn me off. Good work though. Just, as you say, not my cuppa. I like your standard knives much better.

WilliamM summed it up pretty well, looks kinda neat on paper, but.... Those sawteeth are a joke, maybe good for scaling fish or something. And that corner sticking out of the edge just screams "break me!!". Just over-engineered and gimmicky, to my eyes.

aproy1101 made me think, a small khukri would be alot better, if you like that recurve sort of profile.

Sorry for the thread-drift!

I have to admit the sawteeth on the Predator are wicked and look very affective. I've got several pokes holes in my hand to prove it. :D
