What would you do if you get lost in the wild? Do you carry contacts stuff with you, or switch to glasses?

I always have a pair of glasses in backup if I am wearing contacts.
If something starts irritating your eye, you want to be able to get the contacts out to prevent infection.
Eye infections can lead to scaring and loss of vision.

I always carry a spare set of contacts in their sealed packaging as well as a contact case with the screw on lids with the L and R sides filled with saline. I also carry a set of glasses with me. I would be no good without contacts or glasses so I plan accordingly.

If I need to take my contacts out for any reason I usually just leave them out so I don't have to worry about getting dirt/bacteria in my eye.

On overnighters I have wipes or soap that will allow me to handle contacts safely since I don't sleep in them.

I bring a spare pair in its packaging, but I'm only a -1.75 so I know I would be alright even if I couldn't wear them. Wouldn't be optimum but it would be okay.

I bring a case, solution, a spare set in their original blister packs, and a pair of glasses. I wear the glasses at night and when i first wake up in the mornings.

I use disposable contacts so I usually carry a spare set, as well as my glasses. Its a pain, but I;m blind without them. :(

I'm not sure of exact reasons but I think the army recommands glasses other Contacts. Probably lot easier to manage in the long run.

I kept my birth control glasses that I was issued for just such a reason. They are ugly as hell and not really that comfortable but they are tough.

I carry eye drops for contacts, and leave the contacts in. If they start feeling dry, put some drops in. The doctor told me it would be better to sleep in them, then take them in and out with dirty hands.

Glasses and a second pair, in case they fall out, or I get something in my eye.

I smashed my BCGs the day I graduated boot camp so I didn't have to wear them in the ceremony. I told the DI that someone stepped on them and I needed to wear my contacts :p

They are easier to maintain in the field for long periods than contacts. Plus, contacts aren't recommended due to wear with protective masks. While I cheated and wore my contacts in training, if you were actually exposed to a chemical agent, or even CS or OC riot agents, contacts can be bad business. The lenses can trap the agent onto, or between the lens and the eye and thats generally a bad thing ;)

Hmmmm sounds like I'm going to pack an extra pair, a case, and eye drops anyway from now on.

I've used regular tap water before to put my contacts in if necessary, and it sucks right when you put them in but still works. Is there a substitute for saline? Like purified water or water + salt or something that you can makeshift in the bush?

I have an extra pair of disposable contacts in every pack and bag I have, plus I carry a pair in my pocket when I head out. For overnighters or multi-day trips, I also carry a pair of glasses.

Stay sharp,
