For those that have or have built a NWG.

Alright, so i crunched some numbers and shopped around for the ABSOLUTE best deal i could find for all the parts required for a NWG.

I would be going with the long board wheels and a drive wheel off of ebay.

Grand total, not including time=$556.00

I guess i just need to sell more knives :D

I'd like to see your material list, I priced everything up and couldn't stay under $500 for the life of me. But then again, I don't know where to really look for materials for a bargain either.

For $500 I'd definitely try and build one.

Did you forget a flat platen? :)

Awesome, glad I was able ta help ya choose ta use the longboard wheels to save you some money :) I'm pretty sure the plans call for getting 3 feet of the power twist drive belt. I guess you could use 2 feet by putting the motor closer to the drive shaft, but for mine I used all but about 6 inches FWIW.

A flat platen won't cost that much, just get the 6061 aluminum that the plans call for (I used an angle grinder and a belt sander to shape mine the way it is), a length of 2" angle, and I would just get the 2" wide mild steel platen plate from usa knifemaker and order a ceramic glass platen to go on top of it while you're there. It makes a HUGE difference in grind quality, at least it did for me :D ) If you want me to take any close up pictures of any part of my grinder just let me know and I'll get them up for ya, and if you have any Q's about anything else ask away. And keep us posted with your progress here along with some pictures as you go if ya can.
