For those who have an esee 5 and 6

Hey Gang, love the forum, ive been lurking around here awhile and today pulled the trigger and got my first, RC 6 totally love it... carried it all day didnt really notice it on my side. Great knife, chopped a bit and made some feather stix. what else can i say Except which one next Izula or 4 decisions, decisions. But i guess look at the bright side im just starting this journey, still have lots too decide and purchase.

I've got both, and to be honest... I can't decide myself. Both great camp knives. Get either one and toss them on a molle back and your set.

The 6 is great!!! Now waiting on my Izula, perfect combo maybe but it will be a perfect trio when i get arond to get the 4 ... Id like to be a part of a 6 pack club even though its usually a "12" pack or so lol.....

I'd get the 6. The 5 is great, but the 6 is better all around. If you've never seen it, the 5 is probably shorter and thicker than you're imagining

Read the description of each knife and decide which one suits your purpose better. I personally own the six and I love its light weight and an added clip point. But the five was made heavier for a more survival purpose such as chopping wood.

2edgy4u is right on the money - the 6 does it all, from detail work to heavy work. It's my go-to camping knife.

Knives are a lot like cars. You won't know if you like it tell you take it out for a test drive, but ESEE has top notch products so you can't go wrong.

Just my FIVE cents ;)

I have a 5, have butchered several animals with it, their is nothing it didnt do when I butchered with it, from cutting filets, butterfly steaks, boning out shoulders and hindquarters, on deer and lamb. Its a heavy knife, but its well balanced and for me, was easy to manipulate cutting. My other ESEE is an azula2, I think they compliment each other nicely. I got worried after I ordered the 5 that it was to big, but those fears went away when I got it in my hands, you dont even know its 16oz.

Just purchased the ESEE-6 and now waiting anxiously for it's arrival. The decision to purchase the 6 didn't come quick though, I spent a couple of weeks reading and re-reading the posts for both and decided on the 6. Can't wait to put it to use.

I prefer the 5 over the 6. It can do all the things you described and I do like the glass breaker pommel and bow drill divot. You never know when those extra options could come in handy. Odds are most of us will never have need for them in our lifetime. However I'm a firm believer in the philosophy of "better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it."

The 6 is a very capable knife and I do like it a lot. I've put them both through similar tasks and found that for me I just prefer the 5.

If it's at all possible for you, handle them both. But l've been where you were and couldn't decide either...I just ended up getting both. Honestly, either way you'll get a great knife. Go with your gut.

Well I am kind of the opposite of the other guys as I chose a 5 and am happy. I used to have a 6 but I have a real good buddy who needed a big knife and I sold it to him...he was fixing to buy a CS and I wanted to make a convert...it worked. I took the proceeds and got a 4.

So then later I got a 5. I am more of a machete and axe guy. The 6 is a camp knife really...meant for the great outdoors...where I'd use an axe or machete mostly. I got the 5 as a hard core survival, sharp prybar, escape, kind of thing...at which that pattern excels.

So really there is an apples and oranges thing going one with the 5 and the 6. Designed and intended for two rather different things. If you're a camper, or especially a hiker, the 6 would be a most excellent all-purpose tool and you could leave your axe at home. If you're like me and you want something big and tough to have in the car, the hotel room, etc (you know, some place you might have to escape from), go with the 5.
