Hey all,

I've followed the directions on the strider site, and it came out very well. I seem to remember though that some people then put an adhesive (super glue, etc) on the wrap to keep it firmly in place. Has anyone heard this, or done this?

Pro's or Con's for doing that?

thanks!

superglue works. I use fiberglass resin it is a 2 part epoxy
it makes wrap damn near bullet proof...

Hey there Wilco,
I've chosen not to do any coating over the paracord. Ironically, I've stayed away from the para wrapped Striders (all my striders have G10 scales) but I really like the feel of the strider wraps I have on my PBFs so far. Having wrapped them myself I understand better Mick Striders point about the field advantages of paracord wrapped handles that can be unwrapped, cleaned, dried, replaced, adjusted, tweaked etc... So what I'm going to do is order several different colors of paracord and have fun playing around with different colors and see if I can figure out a way to do the simple Strider wrap with two different colors of paracord. So that's why I'm not going to do an epoxy coating on mine :D

Hey Wilco,

I wrapped mine over some wood handles, then applied epoxy... I have to admit that it is NOT pretty... in fact if Eric posts pics of what I did you will probably think (as I do) that I pretty much F'd them up... the only good news is that they actually feel really great in the hand. The epoxy adds some tactil gripping power to the mix and the wood inserts I made add the bulk.

Sure they are ugly, but they are definitely users... I figure I will not fear to punish them, then just send them back to Jerry in a few years for a refurbish! So I am now torn between wanting to make them look better, and being happy at how good they feel in the hand.

My suggestion... use very little epoxy. For some reason I was unable to get it right and they look glossy.

I'll post the pics in a few minutes. Here's one suggestion, get epoxy that doesn't dry immediately and dip the cord(not the handles) in the epoxy. Then you can remove most of the epoxy from the cord and then wrap them. I think this will work better than trying to dip the handles after they've been wrapped.

Here are MtnClimbers Pics :D

Thanks Eric... I would agree with Eric's suggestion. I used a paint brush to apply the epoxy. While doing so it kept looking like I only put a little on, then moments later got the very shiny appearance you see here...

As I mentioned they are not at all pretty, but if for example you were looking to really fight with one or take one into the sandbox I would have to say they would not come apart or slip out of your hand no matter what...

If you want to do something pretty, I would suggest another method. I will consider these my more unattractive yet still lovable children out of the bunch. ;)
