For your bag fetish

I've been toting my Franks Bag around for the past couple of days, and while it's not duffle sized to carry all my junk it's just about perfect for my gadgets and doodaditry. .

Got my bag today. Very well built. I see no reason paying $60.00 for the Maxpedition version of the bail out bag. The original should do anyone just fine.

I picked one up at $25.00. Certainly can't imagine the MaxP version is $35.00 better.

I think you probably get what you pay for. From looking at the pictures, I find it hard to believe that it approaches Maxpedition quality. Has anyone done a side by side comparison?

I am supposed to be getting the Maxpedition version today. I'm waiting on UPS.
I'll post my opinions once I get it and have time to check it out.

Dizos, you may be right on the quality factor. I have never on any Maxpedition products yet. But, overall this bag is made really well and for the price difference I think it would serve most well. I work as a Paramedic so mine will see some use. I paln to keep odds n ends and extra daily supplies in mine. I will let you all know how it goes. Fruitbat, will you post some pics when you get yours? I am guessing I have to be a paid memeber to do the same.

You can host pics on other sites and link to them in your post so they show up here.

I've seen and fiddled with Maxpedition gear. It's good. The main difference seems to be a heavier weight nylon and bigger zippers. It's already pretty heavy weight nylon and big enough zippers.

Hey esav -- do you have a link to the Eagle Creek you mention. I checked their website, but found no mention of a backpack/briefcase.
They do have a Convertabrief
but it's much more expensive with an MSRP of $ 85 than mine was, years ago. Although it doesn't really look it, mine has been around, on the job and in the woods, since the 1980s.

On the other hand, if you can find it for $50 to 60, it's probably a good deal. The back on mine is padded, the backpack straps unclip at the bottom and slip into a pocket on the back.

I can't see if theirs has all the sections mine does, but it seems to show zippers for them: a slot on the front, a small section behind it with pockets and dividers for small stuff, a main compartment behind that, and the backpack strap compartment in back that's good for mags or papers or even extra padding. (Since I'm retired, I fold a beach blanket in there when I go to the lake.)

UPS delivered it around 6:45 yesterday. I'll take and post some pics this weekend. I still need to take the stuff out of my old bag first.

OK, as promised, here are the pix of the Maxpedition. IMO it's very well made, has plenty of outside pockets and a nice long shoulder strap. The only thing I would change is that it could be a thad bigger, at least the outside pockets. But that's just my personal preferance. Other than that, it the best bag I have ever had.

Very nice, I am still working on mine as far as using it as a work bag. How do you go about posting pictures?

I think you have to be a Gold Member.

Is this bag large enough for a laptop? Thanks for the help guys,

Matt

It would depend on the laptop. Something small like a Vaio or Thinkpad should be fine. But a big one like my Toshiba Satellite wouldn't fit.

I'd say the biggest you'd want to go is something the size of a compartmented clipboard for the main pouch. I use mine for work, as I can't really carry my normal EDC stuff in my pockets at work. .

doomonyou, you can post pictures if they're hosted offsite, I believe. You have to be a gold member to attach a picture. .

My CountyComm BOB came in yesterday. So far, I'm extremely happy with it! I can fit everything I want to have "with" me, but can't have "on" me. It looks like it will be very durable. Actually I think it looks stronger than their pictures make it out to be.

I've had one of CountyComm "bailout" bags for almost a year - and love it. The fit and finish of the bag is great. Pockets and little compartments everywhere. I've carried it nearly every day since I've had it and the thing is still intact - no pulled threads or ripped stitches. The bag is damn near bulletproof.

I've had lots of bags over the years, but this one is by far the best bang for the buck.

just my .02....
