Forced patina

i diped the blade in hot sauce and hung it top down so the hot sauce dripped off making an interesting pattern. the dark on the tip of the blade is my F-up tho i didnt clean the old patin off so it darkend alot more there. also i saw a guy on a diff. forum along time ago cut shapes out of a potato and make stars and stripes on a machete

Similar to the cut up potato idea, but has anyone tried using maybe a sponge or even ink-stamp with vinegar or fruit juice? This technique looks amazing, especially the striped ones. Almost like Damascus from a distance.
 
I use a basting brush. Toothpicks would take WAY too long, I hang it brush it, let it sit for about 30min, add another coating of mustard over that one, wait an hour, bam, you get two tone striping.

Are you using regular yellow prepared mustard? Do you know whether other kinds of mustard would create different results?

French's Yellow. Its whats in the fridge. Patinas are cool, in that you can take a little steel wool and start over, no harm done. Try out a few, and see what you like.
