Well after a crushed L1 vertebrae (and the scan showed fractures also in L2-L4), and a broken femur another fall. A huge oak tree fell on our house in the tailwinds of Helene. It fell lengthwise of the house, starting on my bedroom. The tree crushed the roof and attic, and the rafters and beams fell on my bed, destroying it. That wouldn't be a great loss (I bought it from Amazon and it was just basic stuff), except that I was sleeping in the bed at the time.

The rest was bedlam. The "mitigation" company sent the two of us whose bedrooms were upstairs to a motel, where I fell three more times due to the slippery carpet and worn out mattresses. I'm guessing that's where the L2-L4 fractures happened. Then we were moved to a temporary house with our "stuff" stored in a pod, with the moving company insisting on doing the packing in order for our insurance to pay for it, then moved us back from the rental house and two "pods" they'd packed.

I'm left with two decent knives (I think, I haven't checked the Jeep left for the Matriarch). I still have a Crucarta, but no sharpener. It's still sharp to a degree, just not like I'd sharpen it. I can do it on a stone or steel, but I'd rather wait on discovering which box marked only by numbers with no manifest still holds my Tri-sharpener so I can maintain edge angle.

I'm not whinging, if it gets dull enough I'll freehand it ... just explaining why I haven't been online here as I really like the forum. I've always loved knives, and for the most part been cursed with only being able to locally find slip-joints. Those are also good knives (well, some of them, especially the German ones), but they aren't that handy when you need two hands to open them and the other hand is busy.

I'm due for a new one to tide me over. I'm inordinately fond of Spyderco knives, especially the SV90 PMII that I bought and haven't found yet, although the PMII is a bit heavy for the pocket, and honestly - Turquoise grip panels?. What does the crew here recommend as a one hand open/close Spyderco to tide me over until I can get my poop in a group? I should mention that I have essential tremors in my hands, and the "big hole" Spydercos are the only knives I've found that I can open/close with one hand. Or a flipper, but I'd have to re-train myself.
