Foredom Question which model?

My wife asked me what i wanted for Christmas yesterday and I think I might suggest a Foredom Tool (might as well go big, right?) I did a search and i see James has a Foredom ST and Patrice has a TX. I'd like to keep it under $300 and am looking at the K2272 SR kit right now. But the different speed controls and hand-pieces are confusing. For detailed handle work and/or guard work, which unit would be the best one to get?

thanks

For knife work you want the largest motor and most robust unit you can get. The TXH industrial unit is a good choice. It comes with the #44 handpiece only ( heavy duty). If you use a regular SR unit, forget fancy handpieces, use a regular chuck style handpiece, like the #30 series.

Don't get me wrong, the SR series are good tools. But the shaft size and motor stall torque are far different in the TX industrial.....for not all that much more in cost. This is a real example of "you get what you pay for".

Tell her you would like a gift card to use toward a Foredom tool, and you will select the exact unit and accessories after Christmas. That way you can add whatever the difference is.

I can get the TXH-440 kit online for about $320 shipped. (TXH motor, 44 handpiece, SRX speed control) that's what i'm shooting for right now.
