I am building a forge using a piece of 8'' square tubing,it is 16'' long, can i use 1 burner or will i have to use 2.It will be closed in the back with a door in front with a 4''x4'' opening in front.I have never built one and am going to start with something small.Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,Walter

While 16" is a long chamber to heat with one burner, remember, the burner is there to heat the chamber, not the steel. If you give the forge a long enough time to equalize, it would work. In practical terms, though, it would be far smarter to make a shorter chamber, or add burner port.

Just starting out with forging, not going to try anything longer than maybe 12''.If i make it 12'' do i need to put my burner in the center(i know that may be a stupid question........but never built a forge.

Thanks,Walter

Put the burner port about 1/3 forward from the back. Have it pointing so the flame swirls around the sides of the chamber and toward the front. About 20-25 degrees forward slant is enough. You want to create a tunnel of flame in the forge chamber.
