Forge burner questions

You are correct... that is a chicken feeder with an anvil burried in it. The anvil is a 4x4x14 block of 1045 and it is buried in sand screed. I have plans to move the anvil into a 6" thickwalled steel tube that is welded to a 12x12 baseplate.

I have almost the same style anvil 'cept that mine is in a stand made of 2 x 10s. I miss my Sea Robin anvil I sold but it has an awesome home.

Rick Marchand, please dont tease us with your showroom setup, please show us pics of the one you actually use. You know? The one that has a bit of scale and rust on the floor. Maybe some carbon buildup on the walls.

Sheesh, your setup looks to clean to even be used!

Keep up the good work!

Here's my progress on the forge. Nicely welded 1" black pipe on the side, drill and tapped for 1/4-20. 6" channel for a base with six 3/8" rods for supports. Weighs about 15 lbs., which is nice because my 1BF would move around when I put the stock in and took it out. I plan to sandblast and paint it with high-temp paint.

I haven't drilled the port in the side of the bricks yet. Should the port on the side of the brick be 1" straight or 3/4" flared to 1 1/4" into the chamber?

I plan to flatten the bottom of the chamber a little.
