How long do you normally let your forge run to come up to temp? 15-20-30 minutes?

I fired up my forge for the first time today and after 10 minutes of running the forced air burner, it seemed as though it wasn't hot enough. I was short on time, so I shut it off. Since I'm just finalizing the build, I don't want to run it non-stop until I'm positive the configuration is right.

what is pushing the air, if it's a compressor you might want to check for water

what's your fuel mix also, too rich and it'll burn cooler

12" deep, roughly 3.5" square. It's made from fire brick.

Air supply is from my compressor. You are correct, I may need an oil water seperator, if I choose to use it. I'll scrounge up a fan and see what that does.

What kind of firebrick? Hard or soft? Did you coat the interior?

Hard. I found a line on them for $1 each. The walls are two brickes thick, all the way around.

No coating yet. I wanted to fire it up first and make sure the configuration was correct. I was planning on a thin coating of inswool and satanite. Since its made from fire brick, I can adjust the size of the chamber. I have some half inch thick wool.

You have a forge designed to heat up the bricks. Hard bricks take a long time to bring up to heat (and the whole forge will get real hot). Re work it with at least 1" of wool and a coating of satanite or ITC. It will come up to temp faster and use half the gas.
